I have several HO Austrian-made locos by Roco--an Austrian 'Crocodile' electric, and a Bavarian B-B electric, and they are fantastic locomotives--very powerful and smooth running.  Though I've not looked at the insides, I understand that they contain Beuhler motors.  I've installed Kadee NEM converter couplers on one end of each loco and occasionally I'll run them over the Yuba River Sub--after some slight conversion of the Sierra Nevada into the Austrian Alps, LOL--and they're wonderful to watch.  The NEM flanges seem to work quite well on the code 83 sections of my trackage, and they are very smooth runners.

Of course, since they were made in Austria, one would expect that.

Actually, the entire loco was made by Roco. Later they sold the parts to ConCor for several of the items. They also made the E's, Alco Fa's and the sharks for Model Power.

Roco used to provide the motors and chassis for Atlas and Walthers engines. The Walthers FM H-10-44 had a Roco drive and was (and still is) an excellent runner. I don't believe Roco made the entire engines, just the drives/motors, although in the seventies I do recall them making HO US style freight cars.

Actually it is Roco, made in Austria and sold in this country by Atlas, as are several other Atlas locos. Roco has been bankrupt and I heard is now manufacturing in China.

i recently saw a gp 38, it didn't have it's box but on the bottem, but it said it was manufactured in austria, the plastic felt like an atlas,  it's a nice loco very detailed. Could it be a ROCO or TYCO, any info and aproximate cost would be appreciated
