Lionel in HO
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 8:54 PM
I just read Bergie's post about the Lionel Veranda with sound and then went and looked at their brochure. It looks pretty good, but here's my question [?]:

I haven't ever seen any of the new Lionel HO stuff and I would like to hear some comments from people who have purchased this equipment, or at least seen some of it in person. How does it compare with, say, Kato locomotives? Is it good quality[tdn][tup][zzz]?

Hello. I have seen the Grayhound version of their UP Challenger in my LHS. The detailing is superb. As good as brass. Didn't get to see it run, but I gather from all the reviews they are smooth runners.

The Challenger is an excellent performer. I saw a two-tone gray one run at my LHS. The only detail it's lacking is that both pairs of drivers are articulated, on the real ones only the front set of drivers was articulated. It ran very smoothly, and they had it pulling 30 weighted boxcars when I was there. Of course, this was on level track. As for the Veranda, it hasn't been released yet.
