EZ track and True Track question

Anything can be taken apart (or sawed, or melted down!). The question is, will you be happy with the results? I have blue "White Out" on the ends of some large scale track. Looks dorky to me, but kids love to run trains over. Which more can because I can easily reassemble when I take it to shows or bring it back to the kids' club. Point being, what floats your boat, or in this case, what runs your trains! Go for it. You'll either save money or think a sale isn't nec. a bargin. Either way, you win! Happy TRAINing. FDM

nfmissio: okay, I went to the store and it is the Life-Like brand of track/roadbed rather than E-Z Track that is cast as a single piece.

I just tried it on a piece of 4.5" straight track. I got it off in about 30 seconds by bending and prying with a scew driver. I broke some ties, about 10%, but maybe if I was more patient ...? I did not try a turnout, sorry, too expensive.

I only mentioned it because thats what i did with some of my easy track, i did have to refit some ties, but i only sustained 15% damage to them, and i lots of ties laying around to it was farely easy to fix

This not true. The ties and roadbed are molded seperately, and the heat staked (welded) together.

with a simple hobby knife, and a little heat (warm water possibly) you should be able to pry it off, although with a litle paint, and some cutting you can work the e-z track into the layout no prob

The reason I asked is Toy's r' us up the street from me is selling switches for 4.99 a peice! They're getting rid of their train inventroy as it doesn't sell anymore so I figured I could save a few bucks on switches. I guess if I wanted to I could mix it into my layout.

No, if you already have E-Z track, your best recourse is to sell it and purchase track without road bed. Or mix it in....

I am using EZ track on some parts of my layout, and flex on other parts. The EZ track is great for constant radius circles (like helixes), and long straights (like staging yard tracks).

The track is cast into the base of the roadbed--you can't just pull the track off. If you would prefer to use your own roadbed, just buy sectional track or flextrack (Atlas or Peco or what have you) instead.

I don't know if you could pull the roadbed off of EZ-track, but I'm not sure why you would want to. It is the roadbed portion of EZ-track that locks it together... without it, any advantage EZ-track may have is gone. I would just buy Atlas or some other quality non-roadbed track.

By the way... I'm not down on EZ-track. I'm a beginner, and that is what I'm using. I just don't know what the point of using it would be without the locking roadbed. [:)]
