Photo's Only Thread!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 15, 2004 6:31 PM
Hopefully what I write here will be all that is written. Northern Fundy started a thread regarding MR's latest Photo Contest. Well after seeing photo's being posted by some of you guys this past week or so, I figure we need a photo thread so please start posting. As we all know "A photo is worth a thousand words"[;)]

Don't be shy this is a learning experience, and when I get my new "puter" I promise to share my MESS with you, as dismal as it may seem.

Fergie has previously threatened me with legal action if I use the "M" word to describe what is in this photo, so let's just call it the

"disarray of construction"

That picture above is cool. It looks kind of like my HOUSE (almost) ;)

Anyway - the funny thing is that if you look quickly, the loop in the center of the pic (with the trains on it) looks like the benchwork is being held up by garbage cans, 5 gallon pails, cardboard boxes, and something that looks like a tall blue case of Pepsi.

:)

Well Rob, it is actually resting on 2x4 legs but you can't see most of them in this shot. The buckets are all full of Woodland Scenics ground foam, the box has a set of passenger cars in it , and the blue thing is an Atlas O articulated auto rack, that I recently purchased on eBay. The garbage can is full of trash.[:D] By the way if you click on the photo you can make it a little bigger.

I took the wife and kids to the Tehachapi Loop this weekend - below is a photo from the trip. A very long BNSF train with 3 helpers mid-train were workin' the loop.

Here's what I do:

1 post the image on the following website:
http://forums.railfan.net

2 add the pic to your favorites

3 open another window and view the shot. type the URL between ["img]and["/img] and remove the quotation marks.

Note: I like using railfan.net but there are many other ways. Do not use Yahoo groups the URL is too long. On railfan.net I post the shots which fit in that section (i.e. a Conrail shot would go in the fallen flags and Conrail section, a CSX shot would go in the North American railroads/CSX section, etc.

Some interesting graffiti on a NOKL hopper sitting in the yard tracks [small yard that serves a grain processor] near my house. Lots of BN/BNSF cars, which are a long way from home here in Tampa.

Sorry boys, but I think that the point of this topic was photos that you have taken with your own camera, not photos that you have TAKEN from somewhere else.[:D]

Please don't mistake the photos of 3985 for those of the big boys. I took those in the summer of 2002, when 3985 visited St Paul.

I wasn't trying to be mean Jonesie. Actually, when I took those shots of 3985, I didn't own one either. They were 35mm, and I had a CD, but I think my ex wife ended up with it so I scanned the prints back in to my hard drive. The others were taken with a digital that I bought last summer.

Mr. Bruce!

Mr. Bruce!

Those photos you posted over on the "trees" thread they belong over here if you please and thanks! Seriously this is the stuff we need to see to get motivated. As for your comment regarding winning any photo contests, well you've won me over as I had to take a better look at that photo to determine how real it really was. I get a sleepy hollow kind of feeling and it's a good one.

Got any more?

On another note if you didn't take the photo please give credit where credit is due! As an amateur photographer who has been published with and without credit it is only fair we recognize the talent of those who give us their benefit of their abilities. Nothing worse than seeing your photo in a reputable book and not being given credit!
