I'm quitting the forums
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, February 14, 2004 4:37 PM
After what happened today I don't feel welcome here so I've decided to quit the forums. It's not everybodys fault but when people talk to me like that I feel better leaving than heard more of it. I will still check here and maybe post a LITTLE bit. I'l come back if I get enough good feedback.

Dougal, Hang in there, kid! Hard to know what happened, however I would guess one of the Crotchity old guys flamed you. Put your head down and keep on truckin'! If you have been wronged, ask for an appology. It may be the person has no idea he came off looking so brash!

Yeah dougal, I kind of posted a rather harsh remark over in the Help us beat FSM topic. I'm sorry if it was too harsh. Well, it's sad to see you go. I always enjoyed seeing your little AS&N trains in your sig, and hearing about your railfanning trips. I hope you drop by once in a while.

We'll miss ya,

Come on, folks, any time anyone posts a message saying they're going to leave an internet bulletin board, they never do.

They either come right back after being told "Oh, don't go," or they change user names and come back anyway.

People who actually leave just do it. They don't announce it.

Well evidently I missed that whole thing. I can be alittle hot headed my self but this is a forum for knowledge not a means of attacking each other. There are more important things to worry about. The whole reason I missed that posting is that I had no access to the internet. I had an electrical fire at my house which made the building inspector shut off the power and gas to my house. I was not able to get the power turned back on until I got everything back up to code. So I did, It took me four weeks and $3000 to get back in my house. After all this I've come to realize that my home meant much more to me than I thought. I look at the forum like alot of things, differently now. I now enjoy this place alot more. Just remember people we are a little community here. Some are hot headed some are quiet and some are loud and brash.

So quit then. No one can stop you. I read the post and can understand some of ALL of what was said. BUT I thought some of the responses were childish from some of you. Good grief, life is short people we never know when our number is up. So play trains and lay track and let's remember those values we were taught.

only MY opinion,
Jeremy

We all get yelled at sometimes, but CNWfan5525 and dougal are right, there's no need for calling people names, making fun of, etc. Let's just all go back to RR talk.

IS THAT OK WITH EVERYONE??????!!!!!!!!!!!

Dougal,

You ought to reconsider. If you run away from something as trivial as a disagreement on this forum, you're apt to run from many things in life.

As for the 'DOS' topic, I think it's harmless fun. Why anyone would be upset over the funny, sometimes goofy (yet ultimately hilarious) replies that topic has generated is beyond comprehension. Where is it written that you can't have a bit of good humor via the forums, while also getting an education with topics of a more serious nature? To devalue the existence of one topic over another is rather childish.

I believe Trainjunky29 had it right when he wrote about simply not posting (or even reading!) a topic that holds little if any interest to you. How obvious that should be for all of us.

Come on back, Dougal. You've just as much right to be here as the next person.

Will you all just please stop with the flames? Enough is enough! You're in danger of becoming the very thing you're complaining about.

Thank you!

You know, the real irony here is, that is exactly what some of us were saying--"Let's talk RR's, not random crap,"--and we were shouted down by people saying, "Let the kids play."

ACL, you have to admit--there IS plenty of room for a wide variety of topics. I've never shouted anyone down for their polls or topics if they held no interest to me--I just skipped over them.

Dougal, we should remember, is 12 years of age. He's exuberant, full of energy and has much to say. We should grant him the right to be exactly what he is--a youngin', as my granddad would have called him. Telling him to "go find another place to play" is just wrong (not that you did). It's better to teach with POSITIVE instruction as opposed to anger and/or harsh criticism.

C'mon--let's all just get along. This is a great place to be.[^]

I have read enough of this entire matter. Dougal, you should not worry about this any more and take a break of a day or two then get back into the forums about subjects that interest you and is supported by others.

These flame wars are rather nasty part of the internet and there will be more in the future. Same as in real life when people get stubborn and angry. The volume then escalates as one tryies to outshout the others. The rest end up leaving becasue this is all non sense and contributes nothing to the Hobby.

I remember the Bigboy versus the Allegheny thread. IT was one of the better "wars" and I defended the Alley in the best spirit of fun and determination to see everyone enjoy and learn a few tidbits. It did get a bit heavy for a bit and it all worked out well.

People will get angry over trivial things and Dave9999 should say "I am Sorry" to you Dougal. Let things settle down and move on everyone. IF this is allowed to infect the forums the moderators may have to delete entire threads and or ban folks.

Please folks, dont let it get that far. It is not worth it.

I totally agree. Remember the MR Motto, Model Railroading is fun, the day we stop having fun with this hobby will the first day of its ultimate demise. Dougal, you're certainly welcome to stay and all us hope you will, but please remember fun is where you find it and believe me these folks are the best around to have that fun with. I should know, I've been at it for 50 years and I'm still having a blast. The day I stop having fun with this hobby, will be the day I walk away from it, and never look back. [:)][:)][:)]

Thanks for sharing words of encouragement with him, Emerald. I think he'll return.

Fifty years in the hobby eh? I feel as though I'm just getting started! (And in many ways I am!)[^]

I came onto this forum over a year ago. posted a couple of threads and concerned myself with the struggle of everyday life. I came back in November and started to really enjoy the information and knowledge I was tapping into. More importantly I was enjoying the comraderie and kibitzing and trying to ignore the nae sayers. I met some really interesting people on this thread, There's some I would be interested in meeting just fotr the simple reason this is one of those places where we come from all walks of life and share a common goal. The enjoyment of a passion dear to us.

What bothers me is that if I say something there's someone there to flame me behind my back. In my business they are called "Smiling Assasins". This world is full of them.

There is no need to flame anyone here. It's time for the rivet counters and the flamers to grow up, get with the program or get out!

Dougal turn the other cheek, pick your self up, dust your self off and get on with life!

Hold on a second here.

How come it's okay for the kids to post totally-off topic material on the board but you'd like to exclude "rivet counters,' who post material actually associated with the hobby?

Isn't that unfair?
