Model Engine Painting

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and would like to ask anyone if they know of a place on the net to get pictures or software to digitally design a paint scheme for a locomotive. I recently purchased an Athearn GP40-2 Dummy undecorated engine. I'm looking for some sort of side view graphic or software that will allow me to paint this locomotive on the computer and then use that painting as a guide to painting the real life GP40-2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also if there are any modeller painting tips, please feel free to post them as well.
I should also mention that I was thinking of buying white spray paint and then using watershed decal paper to apply custom printed inkjet graphics to the body of the loco. Any fine detail painting will be done with model paint.
Thanks,
urbancowboy
