Jeremy,There is so much rumors, speculation, misguided information and bare face lies flying about that I urge everybody to wait and see how this unfolds. The SKY IS NOT FALLING.
I will also mention the Athearn bashers are having a field day with this bashing Horizon/Athearn with misguided "facts" reportly taking from high sources which they never name even when ask.

I heard that from three hobby shops. I would not make it up.

That's what I heard too that you have to be approved by Horizon to sell there product and from what my hobby shop dealer has said that he can't go through his distributor anymore. So I guess his shop will lose Atheran after his current stock is gone

That's not what Horizon Hobby and Athearn are saying about the sale. Horizon is going to take over as as exclusive distributor of Athearn, which may mean that some local hobby shops have a harder time getting them if it hasn't dealt with Horizon in the past. This will probably have an effect on prices, but shouldn't be much, because there has always been a distributor involved who is adding to the price as it passes through their warehouse. Athearn is saying they will continue business as usual, with no reduction in the amount of kits. The people who have been running Athearn in the past will continue, and it will stay in California, according to their news releases. The only real change seems to be that Horizon Hobby will be the only source from which hobby shops can get Athearn products.

What's the Deal with Atheran
Posted by JeremyB on Friday, February 13, 2004 8:21 PM
Hi Guys

I was in the local Hobby shop tonight picking up a few freight cars and got talking to the owner who was telling me that with the recent sale of Atheran that there prices are going to skyrocket. Is this true? I sure hope that this is not true as there are ALOT of Model railroaders who depend on Atherans line of cars and engines to fill out most of there roster, I can speak for that. Does anybody out there know what is REALLY going to happen in the months and years ahead or is there just speculation to what can happen right now.

Thanks for the advice

Jeremy
