Goodbye and Good Luck
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 8, 2004 2:03 PM
After close to 20 years in the hobby ( and untold amounts of money) I have decided to dismantle my layout and get out of the hobby. Its been interesting, but I think its time to go. I have enjoyed reading the comments and suggestions that have been posted on this forum. Good luck to all.

I am really sorry to hear that Jim. With all you have learned with 20 years of modelling, you could really help out some of the younger members who are just getting into the hobby and need some question answered. I hope you stick with the forums to teach.

i am very sorry to hear that you are leaving, and hope that you change your mind. Every person counts, and and the younger crowd like myself could use the knowledge gained by those like yourself who have spent much time in this wonderful hobby

An interesting contrast. The 20 year veteran simply signs his name. The tyro takes up a screen with his signature block.

I'm sure you have your reasons and I hope that failing health isn't one of them, but if you don't mind, 20 years is a long time to be in a hobby, so why are you getting out. [:(]

I too am curious about what would cause a veteran of your tenure simply leave the hobby. I have changed my activity level many times over the 30 plus years in model railroading, but could never totally leave, I would most surely die. I can understand if your reasons for your decision are too personal for you to want to post them, but just the thought of totally losing someone by choice makes me sad.

Store your trains, you might be back. My interest level has gone up and down over the years as the time and money available has changed. Enjoy your new hobby - you do have one right?
Enjoy

I agree with IRONROOSTER. Twenty years? That's a load of time! Won't you reconsider? There's a lot of us who aren't so young (hint, hint!) that could use lots of advice as well as the comraderie. Please give it more thought. But whatever your decision, it really is sad to see you leave. Best of luck where ever your life takes you next.

He may be back later. The venom of the railroad bug is quite residual.

Hope so! The Gods told me that once bitten by the model train bug, beware--there is no cure![:D]
