Very nice Mark, the concept is fine, but I'm worried that all of that may not fit into your space. I can't remember if you are doing HO or N, I thought it was HO.

Did you draw that with paint? I've been drawing wiring diagrams for people using paint.
If you can put the actual dimensions on the rough shape, I can work with you to develope something that could be built.

I did do it with MS paint. I also made a more accurate plan on paper (1 inch = 1 foot). I might add an extra half a foot on the big curves.

1" =1' scale is a good start. Here's a trick that I learned many years ago, from a friend who drew wonderful plans. Choose a scale divisible by 3, like 3/4 or 1-1/2 (3/2). By drawing in 1-1/2 " = 1' , it makes it easy to do with a standard ruler, because 1/8" = 1", since 1-1/2 = 12/8. I hope you are doing your math homework.This is good practice, and fun at the same time[:D]

Is your benchwork going to go around the wall in a "U" shape like what you've drawn, or is this entire thing out in the middle of the room?

Do you know the proper spacing for track centers? It should be about 2", a little wider for curves if you can, and a little closer on the straights if you want.

Start with those things in mind, and also try to think about how long each siding is, and how many cars it will hold.

Middle of the basement. The yard will probably be widened to 5-6 feet.wide to fit a Amtrak station (my dad loves passenger trains).
