...and over here in Croatia we have old EMD export model diesels, all six-axle, and some of them have had the middle traction motors on both trucks removed (and maybe some other modifications) to reduce the axle load so they can operate over some lightly built or under-maintained tracks. [:O]

Could you tell us some more about the locomotives you mention, or point us to some photos? [:P]

Tractive Effort: Based on a mathmatical formula to establi***he theoretical backward push exerted on the rail by the driving wheels with the diesel locomotive in full gear or in the case of a steam engine it's boiler pressure at 85% of it's maximum. This formula assumes that there is no other friction except between the wheels and the rails.

As for the Tractive Effort of 59600lbs that would be on par with a large Mikado 2-8-2, Mountain 4-8-2 or smaller Northern 4-8-4

The Allegheny 2-6-6-6 had a TE of 110,200 lbs And a Big Boy 4-8-8-4 had a TE of 135,375 lbs
