[:)]The C&O "Throwback" scheme (actually has 2 or 3 nicknames) refers to the Cheseapeke and Ohio's dark blue and yellow paint scheme before the brightly colored Chessie System post-merger scheme. CSX's new scheme is NOT the same exact one, as the yellow was brighter on the C&O, but the "simplistic style" of the scheme (Dk. blue with Yellow Lettering) is the similarity of what the "C&O Throwback" nickname is referring to. If you'll note the "C" in csx stands for "Chessie".. If you go to Railfan.net you should find some pictures of C&O locomotives in the late 60s-early70s in the dark blue schemes.

According to an article that I read on the web, CSX managment and employees wanted to give the company a "new image". In my humble opinion they were just trying to cut costs as the older post-1988 paint scheme (which I still think is more attractive) was expensive and a simplified scheme would cut paint refinishing costs. As far as the "new look" it's not bad, but I can't give it a trophy for creativity. For attractiveness in a "simple paint scheme", I'd have to say Norfolk Southern with those stripes and the leaping horse wins hands down![C):-)]

wow. i didn't this many people would think that is a good photo. yes i believe that is an ex-BN locomotive. i can look at the actual picture again quick, yup it is.

i like my sig. nice and small. it was taken in Newport, MN on 1-1-04. its a CP and BNSF main line. its my first attempt at railfanning so i'm happy. i plan to do a little more one of these nights. wait for a train come through in town. could take days.

Thanks! I'm glad you said that because when this train came in to my viewfinder, the train stopped for an hour! The smoke was from the starting. Yes, CR blue is getting very rare, but here NS power is outnumbered 3 to 1! Intermodal trains used to be redundant redundant redundant (intended) in the area, but now they've sort of died out.
