New Haven,

You might be able to find an older BLI 2-8-2 on eBay.  QSI decoders are locomotive specific so there is only one whistle; unlike Soundtraxx, which has several to pick from.

It is true that each chip is specific and only one whistle per chip, but you can use almost any QSI chip for the light Mike except for the articulated locomotives.  The only problem I find is the number of chuffs does not match if the driver size is a big change, but if you find a whistle you like and the other model has the 63" drivers, the chuffs will probably be acceptable.

After I purchased ten of the upgrade chips, I did some checking with various chips and you can select a whistle that you like from the ones that are available and use that chip.

You can change whistles by changing to an upgrade chip available from Tony's Trains/

I have one of the Light Mikes and the whistle is very much like the Nickel Plate engines in general.  It is a very nice sounding whistle.

Yer dealing with a QSi Version.

See how BLI's blueline gets some of us screwed up and unable to function>?

Anyhow...

QSI has upgrade chips and other tidbits availible now or will be availible for that engine and many others. You can even preview sounds using the Q1a program from QSI (Free)

Some QSI engines have two whistles to choose from. Again, any sound file could in theory be replaced with another by a chip replacement or soundfile upload to the engine.

I had asked this question on the BLI forum and was informed that the Blueline version will be out in March 08, and the Paragon version won't be scheduled for a while. I hope this helps.

New Haven,

Are you talking about the new Blueline offering?

Is the Sound/DCC locomotive in the light version still avalible? Also, can it  change whistles like Soundtraxx?
