Sunshine Models?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 29, 2004 9:54 AM
An on going article in Model Railroad Craftsman has been Essential Freight Cars by a Mr. Ted Culotta. The current issue has #10 in this series. Many of the cars he has modeled have used Sunshine Model kits as the basis for the articles. Do any of you have information on this manufacturer? I never see a listing for them in any of the magazines. Do they have a catalog? I can find occasional listings on Ebay, however, they seem to get bid-up to high!

Need the info!

Use a Google search and it will take you to Sunshine Models, which makes cast resin kits. It will be about the 3rd listing down from the top. A site called Morning Sunshine Models is not the one you want -- look for Sunshine Models Rolling Stock Kits. I can't put the URL here because it is very long.

Sunshine Models sells primarily through the mail (and not online), and also at some conventions and prototype modelers' meets. It doesn't have a single catalog, but instead prints information sheets with order froms for each car or family of cars it makes. These are available for an SASE.

I've done business with this family-run firm for years and it is completely reputable, but its delivery times can be slow if you order something that isn't currently in stock. We regularly report on new Sunshine releases in the new products sections of MODEL RAILROADER and this Web site.

The address is:

Sunshine Models
Box 4997
Springfield, MO 65808-4997

If you're new to building resin kits, see Marty McGuirk's article, "Building resin freight cars," in the August 1999 MR, page 62.

So long,

Andy

Mark:

I echo Andy's views. I have done business with them and have had only good experiences. I would buy from them again any time.

Why they continue to be mired in the 19th Century in terms of their business practices is beyond me, but there it is.
