Yes that is true. B&O lives on "First in a Nation" and all of that.

I may be one of the few that have actually been out there and frankly there isnt much to see at the time. Then I crossed Donner to get to the sea later that week. Maybe the experience was a bit much on the high and lows that week.

I will tell you the Cascades were Verdunt in that winter season, we got up into Medford the hard way out of Nevada/California. That was one scenic drive that wife and I will never forget in our rig. Maybe we travel that way again except the altitudes above 8000 are no go for both of us these days.

Enjoy your new journey. Be prepared to teach those Westerners how a railroad beat a canal and crossed into the west first before everyone else could.

You still can model the B&O regardless of where you live.

I think the LV&T and the T&T will greatly benefit from your B&O steamers--now if I were you, I'd look for an EM-1 to get those trains over the grades between Tonopah and Bullfrog Junction, by golly!

Good to hear trains are running again. Its a good feeling. I hope you keep us posted on your progress. Be interesting to see the final track plan you decided on.

I built a yard with a 12" turntable at one end. Not enough room for switches at both ends. The turntable is hand operated. Uses a split rail for power. Sound drops out when you cross the insulated section. At least the DCC does not short out. It worked out very well.

After my last operating session in Feb 2007, I took down my B&O sheepskin division in Morgantown WV and all of my equipment was sold off or packed up for the trip west. Finally, almost a year later, after finishing the wiring today, I couldn't resist unpacking the Digitrax and my Bachmann B&O 2-8-0 and 4-6-0. Much to my surprise and amazement they both ran great pulling some V&T, D&RG and ATSF box cars. I suspect that no B&O engines ever made a visit to Death Valley Junction. Both engines will head to the shops to be converted into Tonopah & Tidewater RR and Las Vegas & Tonopah RR steam.
