I've been puttering with a 12"x53" baseboard for a few months; something to do while I slowly work on the larger (basement) plan. It's a few square inches more than Carl's true Micro definition (4 sq. feet) but I had it handy to start with. With three Proto 2000 C&NW Alco S1 switchers sitting idle in their boxes, it seems like a neat way to get something running in a short period of time.

I mostly model modern era, so I need to get a few more forty-footers to run on the Micro as most of my roster is too contemporary (and long) to fit into this small space. Also, need a few more Peco small-radius code 75 turnouts to finish the trackwork. I'll poke around Sunday's Troy Train Show to look for both. When I have something presentable, I'll be certain to send a few digital shots to Carl for his next Scrapbook.

These little fascinating gems of a layout pack a lot of action in a tiny space. I'm sure all of us have at least 3 square feet of space. if you want ideas go to this site: http://www.carendt.com

Now to the main point of this post:

This is an attractive option to us "armchair" modelers, or those of us who want a change of pace. My challenge is this: check out the site and build your own micro. keep us posted with its construction etc.

Those of you that have a micro, post your pics here! tell us a little bit about it.

I have been a fan of that site for a long time. It proves that anyone can have a layout in any scale regardless of the amount of space available. That site is excellent and very innovative in the use of space. Some of those micro layouts can knock the socks off of larger ones when it comes to detailing and innovation.

It really is a good idea from one perspective to make a very small layout- one will get better at super detailing because that is all they have to work with, which will make your future layouts (which may be bigger) that much better.

Nothing really, just a little good humored intent on my part. Have fun with the site, if you build something, let Carl know, he may add it to the scrapbook.
