Enjoy!
G Paine wrote:Great video Tyler. When you were doing the part following the train, how do you keep the camera so steady? Roll on a desk chair, wheels on the tripod???
None of the above, I just held the camera very carefully, plus it has some gadget that decreases vibration. It's not perfect; as in the 1st one the camera whacked a tree!
Sue; what river? I only have one water area on the layout; which is a swamp that keeps leaking whenever I try to pour more coats in; and I'm pretty sure I didn't have any footage of it.
Ty, great video. Your river looks so realistic. I can almost see the water flowing downstream.
MrB, You did promise to show us the Strumpet reefer. Impressive as usual.
Garry, Are they arriving at the station on New Years Eve? I always enjoy your projects.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Driline,
Rust will come, maybe tomorrow. Most proto pics I've seen show a lot of dirt, but little rust,
Not an Athearn, its a Kato.
For the year-end WPF, here's a photo of a local passenger train making a station stop on my layout.

I'm with you on this. I have found only one guy near me interested in running my layout and we have 3 hour op sessions about once every other week. I sure could use at least one more engineer/conductor.

Here's my parting shot for the year. I painted, decalled and weathered a generic Athearn blue-box reefer for the Strumpet Brewery. I did the truck (a Jordan vehicle) a couple of weeks back.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
jktrains wrote: Good work so far everyone. With the long weekend I've finally had a chance to do a few things. Started painting a kitbash loco and some weathering of various equipment. I'm not really a Soo modeler but I've seen them go through my favorite railfanning spot so I picked one up awhile ago. Took it out to do so weathering, now to apply to rest of the details and dullcote.

Looks very nice so far. Lets see some RUST!
Is that a recent BB athearn? I have no qualms weathering those athearns.
But Atlas, Kato or Proto2000......well...thats another story.
Happy New Year!

Tyler,
Very polished and professional video you created there! Great job! Now I have something to aspire to with Windows Movie Maker.
Thanks,

I've taken movie making classes before, not train ones, but they gave me some expiriance with Windows Movie Maker.
It took me all day to add the sounds in the correct places, I found them in a ton of places, most of which I don't remember.
I muted all the actual recorded stuff, including the camera hitting a tree in the woods, and had to edit out a lot, such as a derailment and the locos sticking on one spot.
I'm making another one of odds and ends, maybe I'll put in a "bloopers" section!
Great Video Ty !!!
Nice video, Ty!

That's pretty cool! A lot better than my first one. What did you use for the train sounds? Any good sources for clickity clack noise?
Your first?! You've got to be kidding me! That was fantastic work!

There's no place like ~/ ;)
Here is a barn my dad made.
Got a start at least on my newest project; the Branchline Engine-house by Crystal River Products. Finished the four wall sections over the course of the weekend. It's a wood kit, so assembly is pretty straight forward using regular carpenter's glue.
I purchased the optional interior detail kit, which includes adhesive-backed veneer simulating plank siding, and lots and lots of individual 2X6 wall studs. Placing those studs is the part of the process that takes time and patience. (The image is upside down BTW.)
The finish is wood stain on the inside and acrylic paint on the outside. The doors and windows are next, they are build-ups not plastic inserts. Should be interesting!
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

Yep, good point I was trying to achieve the look without image software, but the camera cast a shadow onto the cotton wool. I did manage to get some with white clouds, but the ground was blurry in those pics. Ah well, it was only an experiment.
I might try again sometime when I'm feeling adventurous. Standing on a wobbly chair over the layout isn't something I want to do every day.
Cheers,
Mike
