But (isn't there always a butt - pun intended), I have noticed that a few posters (I actually have their names on a post it note) seem to delight in putting someone down, talking about their "superior" methods, and showing their total lack of compassion or understanding.  The first time one of these folks "attacked" a posting of mine, it bothered me.  But now its rather obvious that, for the most part, they just have to do what they can to show off or rattle someone's cage.  That's sad.

In my experience it is always best just to ignore them. "Don't feed the trolls," is the way the saying goes. You can't reason with perpetually negative people. I'm enjoyig this forum reguardless.

All that being said, I think the best thing for the rest of us is to just ignore "negativity", and consider the source - especially if they have a similar track record.

your welcome!

Sometimes it can be difficult to decipher someone's attitude online.....if they offer supporting comments that back up their statements. When all they offer is a negative/condescending/irrelavant remark with nothing to offer to explain their reasoning I ignore them as much as possible, although on occasion I may call them on their posting since sometimes we don't always type as a complete thought what we are thinking. Having said that, if someone says "that item is the worst item you can get BECAUSE it ......." then I will respect that statement if true or if their logic makes sense.

Long story short- vinegar breaks down on some of the chemical bonds created by the cement. I prefer my vinegar on my frnch fries and on grilled chicken with butter.....

There is nothing better than getting the thumbs up from your wife, years back I had the largest bedroom in our 120 year old money pit. We had remodeled it and put in new windows, trim, drywall, and so on. We awoke to a fire in the middle of the nite and I lost 75% of all my HO items do to fire and water damage, I salvaged allot though.

I added on an addition on my 3 car garage 24ft by 18ft, which is my current train room. It is always nice to have or be able to have something that big to build a layout. Not all of us have that though, but it is nice to have.

Perhaps in honor of her sacrifice you could dedicate a consist to her and her alone. It would be a loco (your choice) pulling 3 or 4 flats loading with sewing thread spools. And of course, it would be blessed by the name of THE BOBBIN EXPRESS.....

Then again.........maybe just say thanks....Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Concrete, thanks for the kind words, but I really wasn't worried about someone with two more posts than me.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it does reveal their intelligence.  As for the train room, it's about 10x13 and it's all mine.  I'm considering an around the walls layout, but first on the list is to paint the room and change the lighting.  I'll be posting the progress pictures.  But I really do want to thank my wife for giving up her sewing room for my trains.

Texrails, I tracked down 4 of FEB MAN'S last 5 posts (his only 5 posts) the other night. NONE had any nutritional value at all from any veiwpoint otherwise seen here. I would not fret over his comments much...

As for the train room......grab it while the grabbing is good.

Sorry Feb Man.  You're right, Santa didn't bring me anything, but our family just bought a new home in which one of the rooms will be a train room.  I was just spreading Christmas cheer, not wanting praise.  But thank you for proving my point that Santa Claus does not exist, but Grinches do.

hi joecool, any info passed along about sharing a family room with the family and trains would be a big help. thanks

The kids were easier than the wife (although I have alot of kids).  I gave all my kids there own railroad.  If i'm reading TRAINS mag and I see a article about one of there railroads or a cool picture I share it with them.  Some stuck with it and some could care less.  Each of my kids have there own computers witch are in the train room (we dont call it the play room anymore).  So even the ones who arent intrested in trains are out there with those of us who are.  Wife and my own computers are out there so I can keep track of what the family is doing even when they think i'm engulfed with trains.

With the wife I got her involved by telling her she is the mayor of our made up town.  She also loves pink and hearts so the name of the town is pinkville.  I created a tourist railroad called Heartline Rail Road, Painted my junkiest steam engine and passenger car (she will never know the difference) pink.  She loves it when I run it.  Also all decisions about the railroad taking over more of the room go to her first as mayor.  I also had the room carpeted, everyone got a desk and nice chair so they are comfortable out here.  Now everyone feels like there part of the train room.  The other perk I offer the wife is if I make a big purchase like $50.00 or more I give her the same for herself.  It can get expensive but she is worth it.  That one sealed it for me though.  Overall family is more important than the hobbie, but if you can combine both its even better.  Let me know how you guys make out with it.  Joe A.

Congratulations on getting the room and like me , you must have a lovely wife, we've been married 37 yrs this year. I feel the same sort of. We have lived here 27 yrs and I am just  now building my dream layout.

However If I wait till I can afford decent lighting, covered ceilings and a walled up room, It will never happen.

I am building a 14'x23' HO layout and am about to start on the scenery.

I am having great fun, enjoy building yours!!!!!!!!

God bless you and have a joyous Christmas and a great new year, Alan.

I know what you mean about the gift that keeps on giving.  I bought my house 21 years ago.  It had a 18'X28' room connected to it that was an old store.  5 years later the room was being worked on.  New roof new sheet rock new floor ect.  have been working on it for the last 15 years since (in between other house projects, work, Family, boat ect.  Finally after negotiagations with the mayor (wife) the layout is getting started.  Problem was wife and kids had other plans for the room.  I think we came to a agreeable solution.  I get all the wall space above everyones head for a around the room shelf and 1/4 of the floor space for a yard and locomotive service area.  It took 2 years to get a plan to fit, now I think we are all happy.  So its a 21 year dream come true.  Good luck with yours and hopefully it will be a lot shorter wait than mine was.  Joe A.

It really is the gift that keeps on giving.  One of the criteria I used in buying my new house last year was that I wanted a good basement for a layout so I understand your excitement. Congtaulations on your present!

Congrats on your new move, and merry christmas.  We have been in our house about a year now, and I have now started on the layout I wanted.  Now you will have the space you want to let your mind go wild over your new layout ideas.
