N-Scale Logging Railroad
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 23, 2001 2:53 AM
Hi everyone
I plan to expand my N-Scale layout with a logging railroad. Now I'm looking for log cars and locomotives like Shay's or Climax' in N-Scale. Is there anyone who can help ?

The only correct Shay ever made in N scale is being offered on eBay right now. Reserve price is $699.95! An outfit called Small Scale Logistics was offering a non-working N scale Shay (it ran, but the side gearing was non-working) for around $200.00 but their website disappeared a few months ago. You can either be a little more modern and use a Life-Like SW9/1200 (which were used by quite a few logging roads) or use the Bachmann 2-6-2, which was a fairly common logging engine.

Gregg,
thanks for your answer. I registered a ebay right after I read your note. Now I'm bidding on that particular Shay. Maybe I have luck to get it. It would be my third brass model. I also own a AC4400 from Overland and a Big-Boy (was advertised in Model Railroader some months ago).

Do you hava any other hints about logging railroads in N-Scale ? Any where I could get more informations ?

If you're interested Nn3 (using Z scale track) is now becoming a little more commen. Several companies are now offering ready to run and kits of various narrow gauge steam engines. Check out page 18 in the July/August edition of "N Scale Railroading" for a very good article on Nn3 locomotives.

Just my 2 cents worth -
One of the best ways to find manueacturers, & info on logging in any scale is to subscribe to Narrow Gauge & Short Line Gazette.
