At Twin Peaks, flying around the curve and over the river doing 60!
We slow for a freight ahead. Once it enters Rogers Yard we should be able to get ahead of it.
No pics, I want to see them too.

Thanks Charlie.
EM conversion kit - Comet Models perhaps? Have you seen the new Bachmann(UK) Ivatt 2MT? Very nice indeed.

Jon,
The EM conversion kit is from Ultrascale Products, and the wheelsets are a lovely piece of work. Here is a link to their site:

I had a look at the Bachmann Ivatt on the Bachmann site - it looks like a nice machine. Do you happen to know if these locomotives were used regularly on the Western Region during the early BR period?

Gawrsh, Jarrell... thanks!
First, I drank a beer. No coffee that afternoon.
Then, I mixed a heavy wash of burnt umber, some red, and some yellow in the approximate proportions of 10/2/3 respectively...as a guess. That all would have an equal amount of water added, measure for measure, so it is diluted nearly 50%.
Then, with the finest brush I had on hand, and not using a dry brush technique, I made the finest swipes vertically up each side of the tiny flanges that I could, and along the base plates, top and bottom, where metal surfaces and rivets met.
That's it. Took perhaps 20 minutes. Lots of explosive releases of air. Oh, and I did this seated on a high stool, too, since the bridge is at chest height.
Err on the side of redness if you must err doing this...don't get sucked into adding too much yellow as I did when I first tackled this back in January or so. I re-did the job, painting over what had existed, about six weeks ago because I felt it was too yellow, and perhaps a bit light for rust. If it turns out too red, use a yellow wash to go over it again.
Thank-you for taking a closer look. I am happy it drew your eye, Jarrell.

Oldies or no, thanks for sharing your excellent work. I enjoyed browsing your blog, images and movies. I'm settling into a new home, and I'm about to embark on a new layout based on the contemporary scene in Seattle, Washington; your work is a source of inspiration.
Incendentally, early BR is another modeling interest of mine. Just before I moved, I received an EM conversion kit for my Hornby Gronk. Now if I can just locate the moving box it's packed in . . .
Crandell, I really like that bridge! How did you weather it?

Jon, I'd rather look at your 'old' stuff than my new stuff. You have a great gift for modeling!
Well here are some slummy pictures to add to the post. These buildings will be on a module I am working on depecting the "wrong side of the tracks." So far I am having a good time weathering and detailing my little slum.

Thanks, Don & Crandell.
It only took about four shots - I got lucky. I put the camera on the tripod in the aisle and just by luck had a good position. I took the photo in color, then figured it would look better (more "period," I guess) in black and white. A little cropping and there it was.
On another layout subject, here's a shot of the Milwaukee Staging Yard part of my NP Staging Loop control panel. All occupancy detectors are in place and functioning now.

Speaking of OLDIES! -Dates back to about 1935, and this is a Commodore Vanderbilt engine, pulling 3 passenger coaches, and there is another steam engine, a 2-4-0 and 3 freight cras of the same years vintage, a boxcar, a hopper car, and a sunoco tanker car and a cabooseThis was last evenings project.
And everything still works! Power pack is a newer Lionel unit,as is the Lionel Fast track, original track still exists, but is very corroded after 70 plus years.

I finished striping the last of my roads this weekend.
Unfortunately, this scene is opposite the front of the layout, but I'll know it's done.
Here's the overall view.
A closer shot of the end of the bridge.
This is the view from the front of the layout.
I'm amazed I found any time to work on the layout after "honey-do's" and building my friends business computer.
I did get to some field work done on the farm scene....
And a little on the yard and station area....
