I wonder what the writer was smoking when that bit about connecting to the Trans-Siberian was added. IIRC, the Korean rail system is standard gauge. The Trans-Siberian is Russian gauge, 5 foot. (Sliding wheels on the axles? Or wheels with standard gauge flange dimensions and super-wide treads?)
Connecting across the Yalu River to the Chinese rail network strikes me as a lot more reasonable.
