Dougal:
a]...Feel free to ignore threads that offend you. As soon as everyone does this, the annoying redundancy goes away.[8D]

b]...Most modellers & railfans have legitimate opinions on better vs. worse. It's often called Freedom of Choice, and Freedom of Expression.[:0]

c]...I'm not mad at you, but if you have a point, it is nebulous to say the least.[?]

d]...Actually, that's not true.....quite a few railroads were built strictly as leverage tools....to extract government land grants which could be sold, to try and bring down a competitor, or to swindle shareholders. That's why there were so many duplicitous parallelling routes established during the days of the "robber barons".[:(]

Which is why, I think, that they should concentrate on making a profit shipping freight instead of trying to shake down hobbyists! Seeing as they plan to spend $3 million a year to collect $300,000 in fees, I'd say a 90% loss isn't that good an investment to make!

I agree. Even though there will always be the which RR is better battle, dougal does have a point. RR were built to haul freight and passengers from here to there (yes I know, big words coming from a guy like me). Can't we all be friends?

I just want to tell all of you that, although I'm not a big fan of either SP or UP, that this RR-bashing has got to stop! No railroad is better (or worse) than any other, and that is how it's going to stay! Don't get mad at me, because I have a point, every railroad was built for the same purpose, to haul passengers and freight from point A to point B.
