OK. I will see if I can find the drawings that I used for the cables, you should be able to piece them together from a couple of the modern GE sets, the DW castings are soft metal so they're somewhat pliable.
You're model looks great! I used a fine permanent marker to "pop" those vertical slits in the step guard in the upper right of your photo.

Since I'm not likely to build any more of these, I'll take a look and what I have left. I know I have the truck sideframes if you need a set of those. I'll tell you what I'll do, I still have a couple frames left, so tomorrow I'll dig out my molds for the frame cables and cast them on to a frame for you, I'll send you mine, if you like it, you can send me your blank one back. All it'll cost is postage.

That's a very nice offer, but I actually already have the truck sideframes, and I already painted everything UP gray.
If the frame was still unpainted I'd gladly except your offer, but at this point I think I'll go ahead and keep the one I have. Thanks anyway!

Nice SD80!
After looking at what I would need to do to make those traction cables from scratch, I think I'll go with the DW parts instead. Will I need both the #224 and #239 sets? How many parts come in each set? http://walthers.com/exec/productinfo/235-224 http://walthers.com/exec/productinfo/235-239 Is it only 1 of each of what's drawn?
Just thought I'd share as no one's seen these in a while:
Rail Power Shells, Fiber optics for headlights and marker lights (white forward/red reverse, front and rear). Homemade castings for rear end of long hood, front end of nose, traction cables on frame.
BTW, can anyone guess what kind of track was used?

I think I'll be able to make the traction cables myself out of wire and mylar sheet. If not, I'll look into the Details West parts.
This thing's gonna look even better than a Kato SD90 when it's all finished!
Train Station Products make nice plastic ones, they're see-through with separate blades, however, the ones I used were brass from Overland Models, Inc. and they are the only place I ever found that had the double screens for the dynamic brake fan.
I haven't checked Overland's web site lately for availabillity, but here are the part numbers:

Detail Associates has an etched brass 48" Flat Top Grill, part # 2012 (Walthers prefix 229-), that can be used for the DB's upper grill, some fine square mesh screen could be used for the lower screen, (paint it MOW grey). Modeler's tip: Paint the body, DB grill and screen separately, glue in the screen and wait till you're all done with the model to mount the grill to avoid damaging it. The CR SD80's & EMD Demo SD90Mac's had stainless steel or aluminum (unpainted) db grills as delivered, I don't know about other RRs.
RMC ran an article about building the CR SD80MACs basd around the RPP shells, including drawings which were very useful for laying out all the traction cables on the frame using Details West traction cable kits. Without the cables that frame looks bare. I have a mold to cast them on all at once (I built 25 SD80s and a few 90MACs).

find jkt rains and as him. He just did an engine with both types of fans. They are really easy and look really good to. Look at some wpf lately and you will see his BN theme engines.

I'm looking at getting some fine detail parts to replace the molded on ventilation detail on my RPP SD90. I can find most of what I need, but one of the only things I can't find are the 3 Q-fans (I think they're called) for the roof. The ones on there now look a little poor, and my SD90 would look much better with some real fine ones. Does anyone know if anyone makes them?
Also, is that last large round vent on the back called the dynamic brake vent? Does anyone make those too?
