Athearn SD40-2 need to find one Help!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 15, 2004 1:54 PM
Hey everyone,

I am in need of the now out of production Athearn SD40-2 in the MKT colors (green and yellow) the stock numbers are 4420 for the powered and 4470 for the dummy. I will pay retail if anyone has any new old stock in their inventory. Please contact me at cobralep@aol.com or this post if you have any available. I am always checking ebay, so that is already covered, I am really looking for new engines but will consider older ones as well. Any other suggestions, please let me know via this post......Thanks

Hey - maybe I have the market cornered! I have 7 undec Athearn SD40-2 dummy kits, as well as a bunch more that have some parts missing. A late friend of mine used to decorate them for CP rail as gifts for customers and for retiring employees. He used to buy them by the case and often gave me several whenever I saw him. After he passed away, I was allowed to recover all of those he had left. I've kept a bunch for myself, and have sold off quite a bunch at local shows. I've made quite a few CN and CP models with these kits over the years.

I don't know where you live but there is a hobby shop in Ames Iowa that has a SD40-2 in MKT. I believe it was like $40 or $45. Not sure exactly how much. But there is still one out there.

And Here I sit looking at my beat up 20 dollar 20 year old SD-40 Chessie Athearn unit wondering if it will become a coveted item 2 years from now.
