Thanks FJ&G -- that picture is way cool.

That link also hooks into "Mike's Railway History" (Mike Irlam) and all sorts of interesting goodies.

Thanks again.

Oh and Warren -- why don't you start a poll ? -- and really gauge the mood of the members !!

Its all for fun.

F J and G:

The fact that you have actually contacted the UP and the media impresses me a great deal. And believe me, I don't like the fact that prices could be going up anymore than anyone else, especially with the way prices have already gone up in the hobby.

When people actually talk about taking action or about the real quatitative issues, I think that is great. Unfortunately, most of the posts I have seen are just negative with no real information.

Thanks for taking it to a different level [:)].

Warren,

Appreciate your POV. Actually, we've been emailing UP & they have a boilerplate msg they send back indicating that the percentage they collect isn't all that much. Even more effective is contacting the media. Bad publicity seems to be more effective. Also, keeping people on this and other forums aware of what's taking place as this does affect our hobby and our wallets and if other RR companies followed suit, it could blossom even further.

FJ and G:

I would prefer that they didn't charge to use their corporate logo. I would prefer that no corporation charged to use their logo. But I'm hard pressed to think of any corporation anywhere that wouldn't charge you to use their logo and that woldn't protect their logo if you didn't pay to use it.

How exactly do you define being taken to the cleaners? I haven't seen any fixed percentages or flat rates for logo use in model railroading established yet.

We pay for the use of corporate logos all the time. It isn't listed as a separate item on the sticker price, but it is there.

And your comment about it ticks me of that it ticks you off.....etc. If you actually read my post, it says that I'm getting tired of all the negativity, and your comment only adds to it.

I also suggested a way you could actually try to make a difference. You could have emailed the UP in the time it took you to post. Focus your energy in a fruitful direction if you actually want to make a difference.

It seems to me that long ago and far away back before RTR existed, every model railroader had to paint thier own trains. Just maybe we will have to rediscover this "lost art".

If things get real bad legally maybe manufacturers will issue only undecorated or logo-less items, or we could just go back to the days of "Lionel Lines" where the manufacturers just put their own names on the trains.

Dont worry, I dont think it would ever come to that, Hopefully.

   Have fun with your trains

So you don't care that UP has taken modelers to the cleaners? Why didn't they protect their logo years ago? Corporate greed!

And BTW,

It ticks me off when people get ticked off at me for being ticked off at things that make me ticked off.

This is getting really old really fast. The negativity is getting to the level where I don't even want to read the posts anymore.

You don't like the Union Pacific. I get it. We all get it. Seriously.

Try posting about your layout...or your latest project...or ask a question...but quit bagging on a railroad constantly because of your deep sense or corporate logo moral outrage. If you spend as much time writing letters to the Union Pacific PR department as you do bashing them on this board you might actually get some attention....at least you would have a chance.
