I'm looking for tips on scratchbuilding these hoses. For example, if you use wire, what guage ? How to best model the gladhands ?

I think you can buy these at your local hobby shop.

I always make them with bits of wire (can't remember the gauge though). I bend them to the correct shape and flatten the tips, then I paint them.

i think detail assc. makes cast metal ones that only need paint

No..get Detail Associates air hoses #1508 and Detail West M.U. hose #236 those are the best of the best.most realalistic looking.
