Track bed transition

How can I make a smooth transition from the main line, which is on roadbed (Woodland Scenics)to the yard area which is on the tabletop? Do I just fill in the gap w/cut up foam maybe?

I model in N-scale, so you'll have to make adjustments in size, but one method that works well for me is to make a ramp from strips of poster board. Take a piece of roadbed, and lay it on the posterboard to mark the width. Cut several strips the same width. Lay the turnout in it's correct position, and mark the angle you want to ramp to take. In N-scale I start with a piece about 6-8 inches long. You may want to pile-up scrap pieces next to the roadbed to see how may you need to equal the height of the roadbed. In N, it takes about 8. I then try to equally divide the 7 other pieces in length, usually about 3/4" to 1" apart. Once you have everything cut-out, and test-fitted, start by gluing the largest piece in place with wood glue (a very thin layer works best). Then add the other pieces, until you're done. Just lay your track right on top, and then paint and ballast to suit. MOPAC 1

Ronald I found a old Kalmbach book 764 helpfull Hints one of the ideas for your problem is Shimming shingles to make the transition. It looks like a very good Idea you can get them from your local hardware store hope this helps J.J

I'm a little late but I use AMI flexible roadbed to transition between bachman ez track (mounted on plastic roadbed) to atlas track (no bed). I just double up the AMI roadbed under the atlas track and it meets the height of the bachman ez track.

p.s. I then transition from bachman ez track to atals track with two layers of AMI road bed then atlas with one layer of raodbed.
