Wow! What a difference. This goes back to 1979, and I will have to find my slides but I thought the Selkirk on display at that time had the light gray color that the 4-8-4 is painted. So, I wonder if they tried to match that color when they did the those engines during the late 70's time period.

Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
Would weathering the engine with a dark wash help at all? David? Or does it really need paint after all?
David, would you be able to show us a decent colour image someplace so that we're all talking about the same standard?

Actually the color won't be a problem as the prototypes only ran at night (usually) between Toronto and Montreal.

David,
please say what is wrong with the colors. I had a look at the book "The Northerns" from Jack Farrell. There is a nice pic of such an engine and it looks pretty much the same except for smoke deflectors. It is a b/w pic, but the paint scheme is clearly visible and looks identical.
Actually when I found out about the colour being wrong I was crest fallen I am wondering if I should paint it black and put MESS markings on it... not!
David please point me in the right direction here after your comments I went on e-bay to look at other CP engines for colour comparison and all I saw was this outragiously over priced Royal Hudson (which never sold) and the colours looked identical. probably why it never sold... go figure

FERGIE, that is one nice steamer.....as for color, good Lord, I can't tell the difference on what it was supposed to look like......it your loco, do as you please.
DAVID: Might it have been more appropriate to say," I have a picture of the color scheme for that loco, are you interested in it Fergie?" Now doesn't that sound more constructive?
By the way, I was in Calgary October 3rd and 4th, I ate breakfast in the rotating tower overlooking the freight yard on the 4th, I was looking for you but never found you.......the bus had to leave at 10 for a tour of the city then we were off to Banff. I still can't pronounce that town without inserting an "i".....did the person who named that town flunk spelling 101 ? That is one scenic location, I loved Banff.

Do you operate DC?
I run DCC and as for her running I don't know yet as the drive shaft was damaged. Still for $275 I'm not complaining. By the looks of her she's never been run, though she was made in 77' or 79'. Haven't decided whether to modify with DCC and a headlight yet as I don't know if I would be destroying her value. The real test is to see how she negotiates my track. If she can handle it I'll be modifying it.
As for CN power... Yes I have a TLT 4-8-4 ordered and along with the CN Hudson, passenger service to Musquodoboit (The M in MESS) will flourish! BTW Can I get a spell check here... anyone?
