Testors liquid cement is basically just Acetone or MEK, so it should not lose any of its strength over time.  All it will do is evaporate if you don't have the cap on tight.

However, as others have suggested, just buy a new bottle and throw the old stuff away if you have any doubts.  It's not expensive.  Even at today's prices, I don't think it's more than $2 or $3 a bottle and is even available at most Wal-mart stores.

For what a bottle of plastic cement costs, I wouldn't chance ruining a project with 20 year old glue. Solvents can evaporate out of glue over time. Especially the liquid kind.

I use MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) applied with a needle applicator bottle. A quart of it costs about $8.00 at Loews or Home Depot and it's enough to last a good 10 -15 years. The MEK is the same thing as the testors glue minus the drying retarders. It sure is a lot cheaper than purchasing all those really small bottles of testors glue plus the needle applicator is a lot easier to control the amount of glue applied to the model plastic....chuck

Why not give it a try with a couple of pieces of scrap plastic?  Then you will know if it works!

I have a bottle of testors (liquid) plastic cement with a small brush in the cap. It must be 20 years old. Does this stuff lose its punch after so long, or is it as good as new?
