I would suggest ( if you're sure about the switch) that you try to sell off your HO collection and use the ca***o purchase the N scale equipment. I would also post a notice at you're LHS. Maybe someone is making the switch from N to HO and would be willing to swap a few items. Dave

I used to model N scale (the Walthers Union Station changed our scale--literally. N scale was pretty good, but at the end, our cats DESTROYED the layout. Lessson learned, never store layouts under beds when you have cats!!

I hope nobody takes you literally and passes off their N-scale junk, because there is some very bad stuff out there, from when N-scale was new, which honestly was bad enough to turn someone away from N-scale altogether. The newer stuff is much higher quality, and I suggest that you do what it takes to earn what you need, in order to purchase one good locomotive, and maybe some Kato Unitrack. In fact, I believe there are Micro-Trains brand train sets which are just precisely this combination- a good engine plus Unitrack, with a few cars mixed in for good luck- which can be had for around $200 or less. I know, that might seem high, but after a spring spent mowing people's lawns or whatnot, you'd be able to pull this much together. It will be worth it, and later on once you've made a commitment to an N-scale layout, you'll want to include every piece of that train set because it will still be the highest quality and fine-running.

I am in the process now of upgrading my entire fleet of old N-scale junk, most of which I purchased while in high school and on a desperately tight budget, and which now simply doesn't measure up to my standards. I'm replacing the trucks and couplers, adding weight, and weathering it heavily, in order to blend it in amongst my Micro-Trains newer rolling stock. Some of it simply isn't salvageable, and it's a shame to see how much I wasted on low-quality goods. Make a good investment, and enjoy your hobby.

HELLO ALL IM AN HO MODELER BUT WE HAD TO MOVE TO A SMALLER HOUSE SO NOW MY LAYOUT SPACE IS PRETTY SMALL. AND I WAS THINKING ABOUT SWITCHING TO N...BUT I AM YOUNG AND HAVE NO MONEY...SO I WAS JUST SEEING IF ANY OF YOU GUYS HAVE LIKE AN OLD JUNKER OR SOMETHING YOU DONT WANT IN N SCALE SO I CAN SEE AND MESS AROUND WITH IT TO SEE IF I CAN HANDLE THE SIZE OF IT?
