Micro-Trains offers 30' and 40' log cars on their site.  They also offer a set of a Bachmann 2-6-2, 3 Disconnect log cars and a caboose.  I know you mentioned diesel power but the log cars in the set caught my attention.  I don't know if any of this is what you are looking for.

I think ConCor made a cow/calf set, but I also think it was/is:

1.  Not great quality.

2.  Out of production, and probably hard to find.

Con-Cor discountinued these (SW1200's) around 2005.  I agree that they were not regarded as high quality units, but as the calf unit in the set was unpowered, I don't see why it couldn't be run with a LL SW unit (after some painting). You might be able to find them on eBay or leftover at some online stores at this point.  Good luck.

Walthers/LifLike P2K made an SW8 that might work:

You'd need to paint it, though.  P2K is good stuff.

BTW, welcome to the forums!  And thanks for your service to our country.

I'm an OIF vet myself (2003).  There are lots of vets here.  You're in good company.  Stay safe!

Building an N scale module in Iraq
Posted by ssghassett on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 1:15 PM

Hi all,

I'm stationed in Iraq but have been wanting  to  make a module of  an N scale logging reload site along the lines of  the ones up in the PNW I can make the module here  but what and GHQ makes the shovel and log trucks but what kind of engine should I use? (GP-slug set or SW).  That and does anyone make modern log bunks and the candian skeleton car like the  one in HO scale that  is  white metal?   By the way it really bites not seeing any trains or MR here in Iraq my wife tries to send me MR but sometimes it doesn't happen.  LOL  enjoy the states!!!!
