Since a Helix would have limited overhead clearances due to the very nature of its structure, it would probably make sense to use the adhesive caulk method recently presented in MR. It certainly would have advantage over nailing track directly on the plywood without cork. I have tried the caulk method on the flat and level benchwork and it does work great, but will it stand up to the upgrade pounding on a heavy train heading upgrade on the helix? Has anyone tried using caulk on a helix? I suspect that I would have to set up a helper district at the bottom of the helix as well, but that is another issue.

We have produced a kit for a double track (28" and 30.75" radius)helix. If you would like more information let us know. We will begin shipping in August, 2001. Mark

Dan, on this web site, click on Model Railroader within the Check Out Our Magazines (left column).
Then go to the index of model train magazine articles and enter "helix" in the text title dialog box--you'll get 25 references on building a helix. Hope that helps.

I'm doing my layout in HO. The maximum outside radius of the circle I can do is 25 in. The minimum I want to do is 23. Its only for 2 levels and it goes up one and a half turns. Thanks for the help.

Hi Dan
What scale are you in, and what size helix do you intend to build with how many turns in it for height? Once I know that, I can help you as I have just made one for a friend of mine.
