i've been body mounting micro trains 1015 assembled coupler on some of my cars and they do come with some shims but i used plain styreen instead. there was an article about body mounting z scale couplers in last january's mr for a more scale size look and closer coupling. they are supposed to work with the n scale couplers too.

You might consider using Evergreen sheet styrene for your spacers.  Use the top plate of a 1015 draft box as a pattern and make as many as you need.

You'll probably have to use varying thicknesses, due to inconsistancy of bolster height from one manufacturer to the next.  The Evergreen product can be gotten in .005" to .020" in .005" increments for fine adjustments.

Once it's painted, it'll blend right in with the draft box.

Another thought just came to me, the 1015 multi pack comes with some shims included, could these be the items you were referring to in your post?

Found the 1028 listed at this shop in PA,  Suggest checking with them to see if they have any. It's listed as discontinued on some other sites.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

body mount "N" scale couplers
Posted by decoderboy on Saturday, September 29, 2007 4:44 PM

i want to convert all of my "N" scale rolling stock to body mounted couplers. the library has a book called "101 Projects For Your Model Railroad", that has a project to do just this. it calls for the use of an adapter plate, part #1028 from Micro-trains. this part number is no longer in use and i can't find referance to it anywhere. my question is, what is the correct thickness of shim to bring the coupler down to the hight of a coupler hight gauge. thanks mike
