Hi Rambo1
The angle of the template fits on the right side of the cab while the raised lip fits over the edge of the long hood. The 5 holes along the left side of the template (4 in line and the last one slightly outward) are for the the hose with an antenna mounting plate in the middle ; the rear end of that hose goes under the already installed large antenna grounding plate. The AC unit has two sides with grilles ; one will face forward. Prototype photos show the small 45° brackets on these grilles are outward on the engineer's (right) side. There are more holes than needed on the template : I heard from the owner of one of my hobby shops that the same template works for SD 60 units with different items over the cab roof.
If your unit is ATSF be aware that not every one of their GP 60s had AC : the numbers 4023, 4028 and 4034 (# chosen by Proto) all have one.

To Martin4. Thankyou for responding to my question. I know about the templates in the box . I assume the larger one is the one to use but how do you locate it on the cab roof? It has an angle on the template. Do you put that angle agains't the engineer's side of the cab and the other between the cab and longhood?Do you also know if the ac unit is positioned sideways on the roof? Thanks alot rambo1..........

Hi rambo1
The gray plastic square that came in the same bag as the air conditioner is a location jig. Just put it on the cab roof and you will see it fit on the slot between the cab and the long hood. The different holes will match the mounting pins pattern of the conditioner and the hose that goes through it ; drill through these holes with a # 77 drill bit. Try to find some prototype photos (http://ARCHIVE.TRAINPIX.COM/ATSF/SUPER.HTM is agood place to start ) to help you see how all of this comes together.
I have 3 of these GP60s in SantaFe colors ; they look fantastic.
The same jig should help you to drill holes for the snowplow but there is so much stuff in the way that I found it easier to glue them without holes.
Good luck

Can anyone help me in locating where the aircondition unit is located on the GP 60. I know it is above the cab but is it right in the center or at the back of the cab? The papers included don't show. Thanks rambo1.........
