Ship guestion for rda1964

Randy: You mentioned a 54" long freighter Hudson Gate in 1/96 scale. Who makes it, do you know, and is it currently available? (and if anyone knows, where?) Is it a general freighter or a coal or ore ship? Im looking for a general freighter around that size. Thanks, Dan.

Dan;

Here is the manufacturer:
http://www.deansmarine.co.uk/
He also has other 1/96 scale ships, not inexpensive.
Nigel N&W in HO scale, 1950 - 1955 (..and some a bit newer too) Now in San Jose, California

Dan:

Nigel posted the URL to Deans which I have. To answer your other questions: I believe the Hudson Gate is currently available. The photo of the ship posted indicates it is a 4 hatch dry cargo vessel from the early 1950s.

Another vessel: The SS Hudson River is a 3 hatch ship with a similar machinery arrangement and hull structure, also in 1/96 scale (slightly smaller than HO).

The principle external difference appears to be length. The 4 hatcher is 54" inches and the 3 hatcher 39". Which you prefer may be a matter of the available space.

As mentioned neither is likely to be cheap. You might want to look for a "waterline" model as a less expensive alternative.

Hope this helps.

Randy

Nigel, Randy, I looked up the site. the 1/96 ships look great. prices 180-215 are not unreasonable considdering i only want one ship. They dont specify what currency that is! If dollars fine, if other, i still dont know. I e-mailed them for specifics.

Thanks again, Dan
