Lionel had at least three forays into HO.  In the '50's (possibly into the early '60's) they teamed with both Athearn and Rivarossi.  The model shown in the picture is a Rivarossi model of a Fairbanks-Morse C-liner.

In the 70's they teamed with Kader Industries of Hong Kong; Bachmann's parent.  The Bachmann GS4, GP30 and some others are models that Lionel once offered.  The first Bachmann verions were identical to the Lionel ones.  Later, there were improvements.

The last foray was the Gas Turbine and Challenger.

It's a C-Liner (CF16-4) as others have said.

Lionel also had versions of the Athearn Hustler and a E-33 electric design on a GP-7 chassis.

It's a C-Liner produced by Rivarrosi and marketed under the Lionel Brand Name.

Thnks for the fast reply...In my opinion though I think it looks more like this rather than a sharknose?

These are C-liners.

In any case this is a rare set???  wow thats cool....

Who, What, and Where?

Hey all Im looking for some info on this loco.... Here is the back story of what I know.  It was my fathers back when he was a boy. My dad is now 53 or close to that..Confused [%-)] So he was a boy in the 50's.  He got this set along with a flat, gon, cattle, box and bobber.  Along with some brass track, 3 turnouts and some scenery.  All of em came in a lionel carring case and packaged in these red boxes.  Was this a common set in the day? Is this set worth anything today?  Im alittle fuzzy on the history of lionel, but i was not aware that they teamed with Rivarossi???  When i took this over to the LHS I had it in a Athern box for transport. When i asked about it, they thought it was a athern, witch I thought was odd. Anyways I didnt know lionel even did HO.  Also What kinda loco is this???  I wanna say a FM C-liner or Erie class but im not sure.  1 more thing......  is there any way I can get parts for this loco? One of the wheels has dry rotted (the outer part of the wheel is metal but the middle is plastic)?  Thanks

John
