How to disassemble Rivarossi Challenger
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 11, 2003 11:02 PM
Hi, I recently bought a Rivarossi Challenger off of Ebay. The engine runs but it needs cleaning. The Challenger did not come with the instructions. Does anybody know how to take it apart or where I can find instructions on the internet or mail away for them?

That's a Challenge!

E-Mail me direct, locomotive3@prodigy.net
I will give you the e-mail address of a modeler-loco repair fellow in Pa that has helped many-many modelers with insts. Been doing it for 20 years+.

Steam is a very tricky call. I own the Allegheny and would never dream of taking it apart.
Been burned by steam too many other times..

P A T I E N C E..

I did own the challenger and I have a spare set of inst/picture but it's in italian. Should help you.

Send me your mailing address .

I believe the Sept addition of MR had a recommended procedure in cleaning/oiling steam locos.

BEWARE: Use compatible lunbricants after removing the old stuff.

Here' more.

Dirty wheels-dirty track really impede the Rivs because of their size and lack of electrical pick-ups.

I would use MAAS, a 2oz , $3.00 metal paste cleaner on the wheels & track. www.maasinc.com Turn the loco over, run electrical clips from rails to pick-ups, power up, and spin the driver wheels-apply.
Also the pilot-rear truck by hand turning.
Use some old T-shirt material wrapped around a brite boy or similar size block, apply the maas to the material, then to the wheels. See Modelrailroader, Jan 03.

Wipe off two mins later with un-treated cloth.

The other majoj problem, insufficient electrical pick-ups .

Read the following.
