Oh, by the way! If any of you happen to get near the San Francisco Bay Area. You must go to the San Leandro Model Railroad Club, just off Davis Street a couple bocks west of the BART Station. The building is the old San Leandro station relocated. The layout goes from the bay area up to Mt. Shasta/ Dunsmuir and uses a lot of cab-forwards and black widows. But the kicker is.... the elevated dispatchers room overlooking the layout is a reproduction of the front of a cab-forward!

Our club's newest member brought in a cab-forward engine on Thursday past. It was the first one I have seen close up. It ran like a dream. He had no cars to pull, so his son was just running it around the club layout. It looked real nice!! Too bad the kid had his thumb on the whistle and steam sound button....almost all night long! It looked good, but all that sound!!?!?! It really got to be a distraction after about 10 minutes....but the engine LQQKED real good!!

If someone made an affordable 2-6-6-2 it would make my century. If you have the 3 part MR series "Converting the Sierra into an SP Cab-Ahead "( 2-6-6-2) begining in the October 1960 issue you might give it a try. A Mantua might be a substitute but the drivers are 50" vs 63"

They're one of those lovable trains that look horrible but fabulous.
