Extreme Grafitti!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 2:35 PM
How's this for extreme grafitti vandalism?:

(click on photo to see a large version)

I was going through some digital photos I took a few years ago and came across this one. I am amazed at the amount of effort the culprit went to in order to "tag" this autorack! These cars are very high, so he would have to have used a ladder or staging. And imagine the amount of paint! Wonder if it was done with a roller?

I have another color print somewhere that shows the entire side of a 40 or 50 foot boxcar all painted with this crap.

And the railroads are afraid of a few railfans taking photos of trains!

That car must have been stored somewhere for a while.Or it was more than one person. Rob

The thing I find most interesting is, in spite of all that paint, care was taken not to cover the car number.

There is a place here in St Paul where it would be fairly easy to do something like that to an auto rack. There are some storage tracks leading into the Ford plant. They cut through a residential area with easy access, but they are also very secluded as they sit in a tree lined ravine on a curve.

I say reduce the image to HO size and print it out on some decal paper. I once encountered a UP SD70 with a pink cherub, complete with facial features, blowing a horn beneath thunder clouds, surrounded by vines and leaves tagged on the long hood.

Di Vinci would have been proud of the artist.

i think the railroad should just hire these people to paint their cars, dont cover the reporting marks and nothing vulgar or harassing, UP could be called the "artistic Railroad Inspiring America's Youth"

Bob, the reason they do it is contained in your posting, "I am amazed" were, I believe, the exact words. (not trying to take anything out of context here - just pointing out they're getting a reaction from us).

These guys are into it to impress each other. They impressed you - you even took a picture of it.

I'm not saying it's right at all (it's quite wrong in my opinion, in fact), but they're getting a reaction - if they're getting this reaction just from us, imagine the reaction they're getting from their peers!

As for someone's posting about the car number not being painted over - I'd bet any amount of money the car number was repainted on over the graffitti.

A couple years ago I saw a huge new UP yellow engine covered in graffiti, just as this car is above. It was quite unbelievable.

From what I've heard the taggers purposely leave the car numbers uncovered so the railroad will not be forced to repaint the car right away. Their "work" will therefore last longer.

I wonder on average it takes a car that has been hit with grafitti to be pulled in and repainted? I suppose quicker if it has something racist or vulgar on it

It depends on the owner of the car. The railroads almost never repaint or wash cars. If a car is owned by a private company, and travels back to the company, then there is a chance that the grafitti will be covered.

Here is a photo of a Cargill tanker that had some grafitti repainted. The white stuff dripping down from the car, is vegetable shortening. It must have been over filled. It was winter, but the sun was warm and the shortening was starting to melt. It smelled a bit like french fries.[swg]

Dimastep,

That refers to "whores". In the past 15 years or so, the ghetto lingo has made it "cool" to refer to girls and women this way as part of regular conversation. Amazing how many people demand respect and simultaneously turn around and "Disrespect" other people,or in the case above, private property.

Sorry guys, at 41, I've seen so many changes in our society in the last 25 years. Even at a young age I was very perceptive. One interesting comment someone on TV made recently relating to terrorism. Was very, very thought provoking:

"It won't be necessary for terrorists to keep striking the United States. All that happens is that the people unite as one, temporarily. Left alone with its rapidly decaying ethics and morals and appetite for instant gratification at any cost, American society will continue to erode and rot from the inside out! The key is the younger generations!"

Wow! Guys, that should send chills up your spine!! This was almost the same exact thing the a U.S Navy Lt. Commander that I know told me last year.

But we remain complacent and even praise the "Perps", that is...............until they hit us.

I'm not amazed when I see it ...... I'm disgusted and pissed off. Maybe its because I see so much of it here in New Jersey.

Remember about 10 years ago, that American kid got caught spray painting cars in Singapore, and was sentenced to a "caning." I was angry at the time that they would scar a youth for something like that. Now, I feel differently.

Respect isn't being taught in many homes in America, and we all pay the price for it.

My 2 cents

Nobody is ***ing here [censored] , dimastep. Just like everyone else, we're giving opinions and thoughts.

Talking to the decal company accomplishes "Zero" [V]since graffitti decals will continue to be produced as long as there are customers that want them. [V] The problem is our society as a whole. Rudeness, dishonesty, and disrespect for persons and property is becoming a cultural norm stretching from the worker level to the corporate executive level. [*^_^*]

As a teacher here in Florida, I hear stories of snooty, well-to-do over-defensive parents demanding that teachers [X-)]not correct their children when they act up in class, including throwing objects! So, what kind of monsters are we producing? [sigh] As I stated on another thread, one of my students admitted to tagging and his mom seemed o.k with it!

Hey, anyone remember the two New York kids skateboarding on top of boxcars that received electric shocks from an overhead catenary wire? Mom and Dad don't puni***heir darling, talented boys........Noooooo........They just sue Amtrak!!!!!!!!!!
Gee......had that been me and my sister,----my mother would have ordered the cops to lock us up, after giving us a good whacking!![B)]

I'd love to see people like these rounded up and mandated to live in an Arab country for just 1 year! They'd return with a very different attitude! Don't even think about spraying a bus or railcar, that is if you want your body to remain free from bruises! [B)][B)]

IMHO, some people should never be allowed to have kids, but then.....this is America, land of the free isn't it? Free to teach, free not to teach values, free to tra***rains--as long as they're not caught, free to be a burden on society and contribute virtually nothing to our betterment.

Again, my thoughts. Sorry for my tirade but again I've seen so much in such a short time. Now I understand the feelings of those that are much older than me.

So, if any of you want to flame me, by all means...I have no problem with it. Politcal correctness is just not my cup of green tea. It smells more like hemlock!

If you get flamed for telling the truth, the flamers are probably guilty of what you are describing. The truth hurts, unfortunately most do not recognize that they are a part of the problem. I too am tired of the "me" generation.
