Good Morning!

It´s Sun-day and the sun is shining! Makes me feel a little happier! I have decided to make it a s-l-o-w day today, no house cleaning, no chores, only a light meal to prepare, and relax, relax, and relax!

YGW´s hobby barn is coming along nicely. It looks as if it will be ready for me to move in soon - just in time, as things turn rather unpleasant in my country. I can´t say more, as this is not the place to discuss the circumstances making life rather miserable for us, but most of you know what´s moving me.

Turning to some more pleasant issues. You folks know I am an aficionado of Swiss narrow gauge railroads, out of which the Rhaetian Railway network is my favorite.

Each winter, the RhB runs a steam special to say goodbye to Winter and hello to Spring. This year, they employed the two remaining, diminuitive class G 4/5 consolidations to head the train from Landquart to Samedan, assisted by the even smaller class G 3/4 tank engine. The two Consolidation will turn 111 years old this year, while the tank engine will celebrate 115 years of roaming the rail in Engiadina! It´s a surprise that these locos are still around, as their life as regular motive power ended already in 1922. Following WW I, the Swiss government decided to break the dependancy on imported coal and pushed a legislation forward to electrify all railway lines of strategic importance, which, in effect, were nearly all. Swiss railways are very proud of their heritage, and so a number of steamers survived until today, well-kept and groomed - but see for yourself!

Winter Steam in Engiadina - part 1:

Winter Steam in Engiadina - part 2:

Winter Steam in Engiadina - part 3:

I wish I could have been there!

Have a great Sunday!
