MisterBeasleyOr, you may have adopted a cat. Congratulations.
Not likely, though it meows very loudly at the door for companionship, I am not sure it knows what awaits it inside.

MisterBeasley Well, thank you for taking care of a little stray. Since it's a calico, it's probably a girl cat, although a few calicos are males.

I would think this would be easy enough to figure out.
BATMAN This cat showed up about three weeks ago and follows me around everywhere I go. No one could get close to it including me. We were concerned about it as no one in the area knew who owned it. Today I sat down on the ground and I guess after scoping me out for three weeks figured I was alright and came and climbed in my lap. My wife scanned it and it has a chip that was made in Germany and the cat is registered in Kuwait. Not on any North American database so the wife is contacting Kuwait to find the owner hopefully. I just love detective work. Sorry for the boring post.

Good morning everyone. I feeling great this morning. I think it is a pancake day. Chloe, I'll take a stack of three, with blueberries of course.
I finally finished all of the trim work around the new soffit. That only took forever. They are doing the roof dry-in in just 11 days. I need to get the soffit painted first. I am cutting this close.

Well, not with the tail inverted, and not without the end-zone camera angle.
I hope this little one finds a good home, even if you can't be the cat daddy.

Hello...
Sure has been a quiet Saturday in the Diner!
Good Morning Everybody. Happy Father's Day! Chloe, I'll have bacon, eggs, and blueberry pancakes please.
Brent, good luck finding the cat's owner. I have to say, when I watched your boxcar video, I was convinced the first one was about to launch itself off the rails when it hit that first curve at supersonic speed!
Kevin, did the grandson enjoy the dinosaurs at least? That would be a real bummer if he didn't either.
I finally finished up my fire pit patio project. The last task was completing the firewood storage "shed" and the prep counter for building your smores, topping off your hot dogs, etc. Fitting that I'm finally done as I'm the most sore this morning as I have been through the whole project, save one day. It will be so nice not to have to move stuff around to mow. I hate doing that, as evidenced by my before picture.

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend. Chloe, how about a bowl of good old frosted flakes? Thank you.
Water Level RouteKevin, did the grandson enjoy the dinosaurs at least? That would be a real bummer if he didn't either.
The dinosaurs meant nothing to him at all.
But, he loves other toddlers, and there were plenty of them there. Sometimes there would be five or six of them just walking around in a herd. That was cute.

That looks fantastic. My fire pit patio is still three large piles of material and rebar in my backyard. Hopefully next winter my building time outdoors will be more productive than it was this year.
I hope you and your family enjoy that a lot. It looks like the kind of thing that might attract a lot of teenagers to hang out.
A quiet father's day here. I had three friends visit yesterday for a cookout and some train talk and a lovely day of camaraderie. Unfortunately they had to leave as the hour was getting late so we barely had time for running trains.
I hope everyone is doing well...
Signals, C&O style:
Meeting of CSX Coal Trains in Marion by Craig Sanders, on Flickr
I have several HO cantilever signal bridges like this one but hesitate to use them since they are definitely a C&O design. I've already got a blend of PRR, NYC, B&O and generic three-color signals on the layout as it is.

The caption:
The long-dormant storefronts of Thurmond, West Virginia were brought to life in the fall of 1986 when the town was chosen as the location for shooting the film “Matewan”, an historical account of the mining management/labor struggle in Matewan, WV. Not only was the town totally rebranded from a C&O mining community to a settlement on the N&W some 100 miles away, even the railroad elements underwent a makeover. Here the “iconic” C&O cantilever that was so sought after by rail photographers in its last years has been disguised as a full signal bridge and painted black. The signal maintainers better push away from the dinner table a little sooner if the railroad has to resort to publishing weight limits on the signal structures.

Good afternoon and Happy Father's Day from the West Coast.
No luck on the cat front, though we found out large numbers of rescue cats were shipped from Kuwait to the United States and all were chipped, however, this little one was not on the rescue cat chip list. The people up the road have taken it in, however, it still spends a lot of time down here. The wife has emailed several organizations around the world to see if they can help track down the I.D.
Are you going to send that third car back Batman, I notice that it is not as good a runner as the first two. Wot is the grade? And I’m not sure that you’d what to come to live here either.
Bear, the grade undulates between about 1.25% and 1.75%. Like my curves, I don't like the stamped look of a constant set radius or a constant set climb. Though that is not always an option.
The wife and I spent time looking at real estate in NZ online yesterday. I think we could sneak in past the immigration checks even though we are two old foggies that would soon be putting a strain on New Zealand's outstanding public health care.
The wife liked this one.

Haven't lost one yet Mike. Must be that superelevation. I must say the performance of cars in that roll test over the years sure has varied, I have had some that wouldn't even roll down the hill.
Your fire pit looks awesome, it is just what my Guitar and I need.
My son came by today and was talking about wedding plans, They have managed to get his future MIL under control on the spending front by just not including her in the decision-making. She (the MIL) had said that they would pay for everything and the reality is they are in no position to pay for even part of it. My son and his GF make big money and are not concerned and they can afford it. It was getting out of hand though.
The wife has gone to get Shushi, I better go get some of the Captain and Pepsi for a snort on the patio, She'll be gone 40 minutes, maybe I can sneak in two!
All the best to all.
Got some signals going on hanging off the front of the station.
Love the outhouse.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads.
Water Level RouteI finally finished up my fire pit patio project.
Hi Mike,
The fire pit and patio look great! Job well done!
Cheers!!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
SeeYou190The dinosaurs meant nothing to him at all. But, he loves other toddlers, and there were plenty of them there. Sometimes there would be five or six of them just walking around in a herd. That was cute.
If your grandson is like mine, the dinosaurs (or trains or anything else) don't really matter as much as getting to spend time with grandfather. Have fun!

Was there any indication why cats would be shipped here from Kuwait? Did Kuwait have a problem with too many cats? My area is overrun with homeless cats.
That is a great looking backyard. I especially like the separate shelf in the firewood storage for the kindling. I didn't think of doing that, and I have a mess with kindling and firewood all in the same stack. I might try to add that to my setup.
Have a good day, everyone.

I asked my doctor if I gave up delicious food and all alcohol, would I live longer? He said, "No, but it will seem longer."
Good morning everyone. Chloe, please bring me a small bowl of unsalted almonds to munch on while I enjoy the conversation today.

He has only begun to warm up to me recently. Now he runs to me everytime he sees me and follows me around the house. He likes to sit on my lap when I am doing things, and watches as though he is seriously interested.
He gave me a cute card for Father's Day yesterday (that my daughter made). It will be saved forever.

That is great to hear!
We are on the verge of welcoming our first grandchild into the world, and by 'verge' I mean within the next couple of days! I will make sure that he gets interested in trains of course. That means I better get my butt back in gear and start laying some track on the layout which I have neglected for far too long.
I know that straying too far from model railroading is frowned upon by some people, but I'm going to do it anyhow!
Just about everybody hates spiders, right? Well now I really hate them because we have spent about $300 this spring having spiders cleaned out of our BBQ and our outdoor gas fire pit! The fire pit was just repaired this morning.
Oh well!
It is a cool, cloudy day on the Pacific Rim and the forest fire situation is a little better for it.
Looks like the wife found the owner of the cat. A woman contacted her from a town many km away. Apparently, her father got the cat as a rescue when living in Kuwait and brought it to Canada with him. The father died and she had the cat for two years and it up and disappeared. Stay tuned.

You are right, there are more than enough cats and dogs and other animals on this side of the pond that need a home. 2017/18 brought some interesting changes in the U.S. that opened the floodgates. These essentially criminal operations have for the most part now been stopped. A lot of people paid a lot of money for their so-called rescue cat or dog from a far-off land. A lot of donations were asked for to save these cats and dogs and a lot was donated. A lot of pockets were lined.
At the same time, we were no longer allowed to donate puppies to be trained as guide and service dogs to the U.S. Not one of our dogs has gone to the U.S. since 2018. This is also in the process of being reversed.
The wife is taking the cat home as I type. She is heading to Costco which is in the same direction.

Why didn't you just light the thing, that would have taken care of the wildlife in there. I opened our grill once and there was a softball size wasp nest in there and they were not happy to see me. I gave them a while to go back to sleep, went back, and turned on the grill. There was no trace they were ever there a while later.
Time to get on the Deere for a scoot, maybe I'll get my slave to do it.
A BAT-NEWS Cat update!
The cat's home was 18km away and it went missing May 3rd. Now get this, we could not understand why it chose our place to hang around, however, the wife pulls into the owner's driveway and they have a white Toyota Highlander and a gold pick-up truck in the driveway. We have a gold P/U and a white Toyota Highlander. It gets better, the wife is walking up to the door when the owner opens the door, and two golden retrievers come running out, we currently have six, but who's counting? The dogs and cat go crazy over seeing each other with the dogs licking the cat and end up carrying it into the house by the scruff of the neck.
The End
One more thing, one of our Goldens is named Mimi, the cats name is Mimi.
hon30critterJust about everybody hates spiders, right? Well now I really hate them.
I have some little black and white spiders on my back porch I cannot get rid of.
They jump! I mean they can really jump in an astonishing fashion. Just what I needed, super-jumping-spiders.

We'll get there sooner or later!
I spent the weekend teaching my wife how to reglaze our exterior wooden windows. The window glazing is cracking and falling out; and the window trim paint is fading and cracking. She is a good scraper and sander, but she has never seen glazing points or glazing putty. It was also her first time on scaffolding, which turned out well. We are doing a set on our garage that cannot be seen from the street, partially because we haven't figured out what color to paint them; and we may experiment with colors. Everything is prepped and ready for primer. Once we pick a color, our soffits will get sanded and repainted as well.
We were slowed down somewhat by thunderstorms Thursday and Saturday night. Tornado siren went off Saturday night; there was a tornado north of town, but it didn't touch down. We did have 80 mph straight line winds; lots of tree limbs down; a tree fell on a house a block and a half north of us. Next door to that house, a large pine tree was struck by lightning; resulting in a very funny looking tree minus the top half. Our neighbors across the street lost power Saturday night; we lost cable & internet, but kept power. We did stay in the basement all night.

Hi Everyone,
just checking in to say hi.
Had a very nice Father's Day yesterday. Got together with the kids and the girls (grand daughters). Had homemade pizza cooked on a stone on the grill. They were very tasty. My son has become quite the grill master. He cooks all kinds of things very well. I never graduated beyond burgers and dogs. My son gave me a Dodgers hat, which I quite appreciated. I've been a Dodgers fan since the mid-50s. After the food, we went over to a local community college to see the Andy Warhol exhibit. He really influenced a lot of art, although I was never a fan. I'm more into Bauhaus and Impressionism. But, it was a nice and informative exhibit.
I see the diner is going to the cats and dogs. That's fine, as long as Vinnie doesn't decide to cook any. Some cute stories with the animals.
Happy belated Father's Day to all.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
Good Morning everyone. Janie, coffee and toast please.
Brent, incredible story about the cat! Can you imagine what that little thing was thinking? "House is different, but everything else is the same! Where is my staff?"
Tin Can, glad to hear you made it through the storms otherwise unscathed.
Jim, pizza on the grill is good! We will usually use the premade crusts so we can slide the pizza right on the grates, but I'll have to try the pizza stone idea sometime. Ours has only been used in the oven.
Diner conversation sliding a bit towards cats & dogs is okay, but let's refocus a bit by combining the two somewhat.
Mike, that dog train looked like the dogs were having a great time.
Someone has collected a lot of signals:

Good morning everyone. Chloe, I'll take three hard boiled eggs in a bowl and a large cup of black coffee.
I have not added a brass locomotive to my collection in over a year. I have all I need, and there are only a couple of "fantasy" models still on my "to-buy" list.
But... a very nice model of a USRA Heavy 2-10-2 has showed up on eBay, and it has caught my eye. I am considering it.
Temptation might get the best of me.
How can you tell it’s a dog train?
By its bark.
I just looked through the motion alerts from my security cameras from last night.
At about 3:30 AM an unmarked police car parked at the vacant house to my South. Three police officers got out of the car, walked through my back yard, and into the backyard of the house to my North.
The cameras saw nothing else until about 30 minutes later when one of the police officers got into the unmarked car and drove away. He aproached the car from the street, not my back yard.
Curious.

i was born in Brooklyn, and my first live baseball game was a Dodgers game at Ebbet's Field. I still remember that day. I became a Mets fan after the Dodgers deserted us for LA, but when I moved to Boston I switched all my allegiances to Boston teams.
