They were also very good at diffusing anger when a parent or teacher needed to see me about some earth-shattering topic.

Amen to that!!!  I was big time indebted to several at the buildings I worked in.

Ooooo!!!  Top of the page.  Ok, glasses of your favorite Finger Lakes Wine all around.  My favorite winery here is Fox Run Vineyards, but all of the local wineries are great!

So where exactly does this BB code appear? I tried right-clicking on a number of pictures, videos, and so forth and I'm not seeing that.

Maxman, I can only answer about imgur.com, where I store my photos.  It's free.  When you upload a picture and click on it, a menu will open with lots of options.  One of the options is a BB code (not the linked BB code).  I assume it stands for bulletin board.  Anyway, when you copy that code and paste it here in the text, the photo won't appear until you post your comment.

I know it is more difficult than some sites that you can just upload your photos and they appear, but I assume the forum didn't want to have the huge memory to store all the photos.

Thank you, Bros. Lion.

I have printed this out this time and will try it the next time I need to include something to see if it will work.

Concerning the wildebeast, you may have this one.  But you will need to skin it yourself.

On the other hand, if you insist on catching/cooking an expert helper, I can send you a pair:

Kevin, you said your wife is away.  Are you working hard on the house?

I am still at a roadblock because of the 4 foot by 6 foot hole in the living room ceiling. The HVAC guys are supposed to be back on Thursday to correct the problems.

Then... hopefully... finally... full steam ahead.

It is still too rainy to work outside on the landscaping.

Good Morning All.  Chloe, I'll have the special with three eggs please.

I'm going to have to go read one of the other threads when I have more time.  Seems something went astray and someone's feelings got hurt, and then when Kevin honorably started a different thread simply to discuss what he enjoys and he immediately got attacked for it.  Bizarre.  FWIW, Kevin I saw nothing wrong with your thread and tried to relate that in my post, although maybe not as directly as I should.  Can't remember.  My brain isn't fully awake yet! Laugh

Had a good FaceTime call with my oldest last night.  Long story short, things are looking up!

Happy hump day (for those who are still working that is!).

The thread situation reminds me of our Corporate sensitivity training we were all subjected to at work.  After a while matriculating verious sessions, I came to realize that they all came from one side with one solution, that the speaker....in this case writer of a thread comment...is the problem and (usually a he) needs to learn how to be more sensitive when speaking in order to not offend any potnetial listener.

I always thought half the problem came from listeners being too sensitive.  Maybe instead of just teaching others how to speak or write MORE sensitivley, we should focus half the energy on teaching others how to listen or read LESS sensitively.  That would avoid conflict too.

You know, back in the good ol days we had the saying, sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.  Where did that thinking go?

I guess in the end, if anything at all, Kevin may have been guilty of typing an imperfect post.  As punishment for being the only person on this forum to have ever done that, I think he should cut off one index finger.

Especially with written communication!!  Intonation is lost.  I remind my kids of that regularly.

I think it went away about the time we stopped keeping score at kids sporting events and everyone got a ribbon for participating.  When my kids first started playing sports, they were taught to keep score in their head as there are VALUABLE life lessons to be learned in both winning and losing.  Much of it related to how one responds graciously in either scenario.

Good morning, diners.  For a change, I'll have eggs, bacon, and two large black coffees.

It's another beautiful day outside on the Great Plains.  It was cool, clear, and not humid for my morning walk.

I also saw nothing wrong with Kevin's post.

I've got one thing scheduled this morning, and then it's a clear day.  With the weather outside so nice, I feel a little (very little) guilt spending the day inside working on the layout.

My last foray into the shortline RRs:

The Utah Railway has about 60 miles of owned or leased track, running from Grand Junction, Colorado, to Ogden, Utah.

It's kind of neat that the logo has a bee hive, Utah's symbol.

Last day of August, 2022.  We'll never have this day again so enjoy it, everyone.

Mike:  Hopefully the trauma that is move in is over.  We try to plan as many student-centric events during what we call Welcome Week.  If at all possible, try to get your daughter involved in student clubs and/or organizations.  The more students she meets, the more chances she has to find folks with common interests.

My trauma during Welcome Week were two public hearings and a board meeting; all in the same night.  The hearings were about our budget and property tax rate.  It was a lot of stress; but it is very necessary, and a lot of detail work. Glad it is over.

There was a hilarious stand-up comedy bit I caught on NetFlix a couple of years ago. The comedian was talking about how Millenials were going to eventually become the grumpy grandparents of the future.

"Grandpa---grandpa--- look at my trophy!"

"Nice, how did you win a trophy?"

"This is my attendance trophy for non-contact team walking!"

"What, you got a trophy just for showing up? That's what's wrong with the world today. You kids are all too soft and wimpy. Back in my day, if you wanted a trophy, you HAD TO ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE!"

Good stuff.

One last day to post the shortline pics.  This one, from Kevin's neck o' the woods.

Wiki:

The Seminole Gulf Railway (reporting mark SGLR) is a short line freight and passenger excursion railroad headquartered in Fort Myers, Florida, that operates two former CSX Transportation railroad lines in Southwest Florida. The company's Fort Myers Division, which was previously the southernmost segment of CSX's Fort Myers Subdivision, runs from Arcadia south to North Naples via Punta GordaFort MyersEstero, and Bonita Springs. The company's other line, the Sarasota Division, runs from Oneco south through Sarasota

Freight transported by Seminole Gulf Railway includes lumberpropane, stone, steel, scrap metal, and other commodities.[3] Freight is interchanged with CSX usually once or twice a week on each line. On the Fort Myers Division, freight trains between the yard in Fort Myers and Arcadia are known as the Desoto Turn.[4] The Desoto Turn switches customers between North Fort Myers and Arcadia while industries in Fort Myers and south of there are switched locally from the yard.

The plan for retirement is to relocate to SW Florida.  Somewhere from Sarasota to Naples.  I am toying with the idea of having a SGLR based layout then, proto-lanced to my tastes.  Possibly called the Charlotte Harbor Railway, harkening back to the origins of the SGLR.

I think the line south of Ft Myers is pretty much abandoned and under consideration for RailTrail

My trauma during Welcome Week

I remember taking my oldest to college many years ago.  Got her moved into the dorm okay, but then had to leave her there for the three hour drive home.  That was very traumatic for me.

However the real trauma started not shortly after we got home.  We got a phone call from the daughter saying that the boyfriend (who did not attend school there) of her new roommate had informed her that he intended to stay the night and that she needed to find somewhere else to stay.

As you can imagine I went into full run 8 protective father mode.  Took a couple phone calls to get that straightened out pretty quickly.

Well.....  A Deep Subject!

Since we are winding down the month, how about some more photos from my 2nd. favorite shortline.  A very, very short line!  The R&GVRR Museum.

For many years we have had two weekends worth of rides behind a little tank engine we have brought in for the excursions. Here are a few of Viscose #6 a restored, privately owned little 0-4-0.  Enjoy!

Maxman:  How well do I remember dropping off our son for his first summer at Purdue.  He was excited to begin his college football career and not be in College Station, TX.  There was not a dry eye or a spoken word for the first two hours of the trip back, from mom, dad & sis.

Good evening

There were 4 farm fresh watermelons in the back of the truck.

One went to Gerry, the little old lady that had her 89th birthday this late summer, and lives right across the hall.  Sweetest little old lady you'd ever want to meet and we just love her.

One went to John that feeds me my jobs.  In my book John is the best guy I have ever met in my life and deserves beef sticks on top of his watermelon and he got those too.

Third watermelon went to Barb.  Because Barb is a little old lady but she thinks of everybody else before she thinks of herself and that's why we think so much of her.

We only got the Orange Crush hybrid watermelon going up to Wisconsin the day after tomorrow.

That'll do!

Kevin,  I still support your original post on that other thread.  I don't model the same way you do, or Sheldon does, or Dr. Wayne does.  But, it's the individuality of the hobby that keeps me looking at other layouts, particularly at shows or layout tours where I get a chance to view layouts as they're built.  There is so much variety in construction techniques and scenery that it's great that every modeler develops his own niche and let's us see it.
