European spec Fleischmann Engines in HO scale
Posted by tanker2k6 on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 7:02 AM

I have a Fleischmann starter set I run with the 220v transformer that I got while in Germany. I would like to know where I can get engines to run with that transformer. I want to avoid US spec engines so I don't fry them.

Any information and websites / links are greatly appreciated.

I can't help you Tanker, but I'll give your thread a "bump", maybe someone who knows will see it.

What is the power on the track? Is it not 12V DC?

What's the output voltage of the transformer?  Are you sure they aren't 12v engines?

All my Fleischmann engines run on the same track and the same transformer as all my USA HO models. Older Fleischmann have deep flanges, but they have always worked on 12v DC.

I don't see 12 V on this page https://www.reynaulds.com/transformers.aspx

Our former member Ulrich would know but management didn't like his discussions of current life in Germany.

There is a guy on youtube MarklinofSweden who would probably know.  He is a member here as Martin T.  He has not posted in a couple of years and you or he may not be able to message one another.  He has an active youtube channel.

If that fails, send me a pm and I will see if Ulrich will contact you.

So any HO scale 12V DC, 2 rail engine should work. Where are you located? Is there a reason why you would use a 220V power source?

Simon

PS: I was wondering what had happened to Ulrich...

Fleischmann Modelleisenbahn Products CONTROL Power supply 6725 Controller set

Current Fleischmann DC trains run on the same 12V DC that US model trains run on. You cna use say an MRC power pack to runt he Fleischmann trains no problem, if you relocate to the US, instead of using a 220V converter witht eh German power pack. 220V is just the INPUT voltage.

Their older stuff they sold here was all stadnardly compatible with any other HO trains. The current product line seems to be all N scale.

Besides Fleischmann, Trix and Roco make European outline equipment that will run fine on the Fleischmann layout. Few if any European style locos and rolling stock are made by any US companies.

Randy is correct, the 220vt is the common household voltage in Europe, just as 120vt is standard in the USA.   My Marklin trains can come with a 220vt or a 120vt transformer depending on what country they are sold in.  But the power that comes out of either transformer is the same in regards to what the trains themselves need.  Many of my Marklin engines were gotten as gifts by my aunt and uncle on their trips to Germany.  But they run fine here in the USA.   Mike the Aspie
