Restoring 224E set
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 14, 2005 2:51 PM
Hi everyone. I am interested in getting my Pre War Lionel 0 guage train set refurbished. I have a Lionel 224E steamer that is in dire need of repair. I don't quite know how to go about starting. Any info will be very helpfull
ie: websites for part manual numbers and listings.

Thanx for any help.

Repair parts for the 224E are readily available. After disassembly and cleaning, you should clean the commutator surface (Brasso- NOT sandpaper) and replace the brushes (don't lose the springs behind the brushes!!). You might also want to replace the contact rollers (that contact the center rail) if these are very worn. Use light grease on the gears and oil (sparingly) on all bearings. If there are problems with the E-unit (the reverse unit) you should take the loco to a repair shop- check with a local hobby shop on this. I get parts from George Tebolt Train Parts- he has almost everything in pre and post war trains.
Contact me if you have any specific questions.
Regards- Richard W.

hello everyone... I saw this thread and had to reply. I also have a 224E engine that my father gave me, the unit functions quite well, however there are some cosmetic repairs it is in need of, and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to an online store? Thanks!
