BAR rebuilt a number of old 40' boxcars for wood chip service. Eastern Maine Model RR Club kitbashed and painted a bunch of Athearn boxcars to match the prototype as a fund raising project.

George: Those are great open-top cars. I don't remember seeing a model of a freight car like those.

...

Show me a freight car with a slogan on it.

I had a lot of boxcars and reefers wearing this herald and slogan, but thought it to be too modern-looking when I back-dated my layout to a late '30s-era...

Wayne

I know that slogan-bearing freight cars are very popular, so please show us some more of them.

From the heady days of the interurban lines:

I've read where shippers shy away from having any identifying marks on their cars these days because of the negative effect in the public eye when these cars are shown in the media after being involved in wrecks and environmental disasters.

A sad reality.

Please show more cars with slogans.

Ed, is that the old interurban line that ran from Grand Rapids to Holland Mi (but not Chicago?)? I think I know where the old line used to be, in Wyoming Mi, just west of GR is a diagonal street in an area where all the other streets are horizontal or vertical, and I’ve heard that’s the old inter urban... I just had to comment that I think I may know this obscure little line, though not by name until now!

I don’t have another picture of cars with a slogan, saddly, but perhaps someone else does...

The club did a kitbash based on Athearn BB 40' boxcar. They plugged the doors and extended the top with styrene. Then painted and added custom decals.

This site has some maps and photos, Isaac.

http://godwin.bobanna.com/interurban_gr_holland.html

So many interurban lines were abandoned in the early and mid 1920s makes it difficult to trace R-of-W sometimes.

Can you imagine, civic leaders are talking about how wonderful it would be to have a rail line on this route some 100 years later!

Where was the vision when these lines were abandoned?

Here are a few cars with slogans.  The first three are ones which are still in use, as-shown, on my layout...

....while this reefer, with factory paint and lettering...

...was given to a friend and replaced with two of these as undecorated kits...

...and this one, originally an undecorated Accurail kit, with a few added details...

...while this one...

...was re-painted and re-lettered like this...

...as was this one...

...re-done as this...

The ATLANTIC CENTRAL has a slogan. I lettered this boxcar one letter at a time. It was supposed to resemble Wayne's "Way Of The Warriors" cars, but I could not make a circular AC logo.

Technically, this car doesn't even have trucks:

I hope the shop forces rotate that tack board 90° too!

I think the tack board would still be completely functional in its current orientation.

.

I am more interested in the collection of gondola ends in the foreground. Are the employees going to take those to the scrapyard after work for their beer money fund?

Functional, yes. Aesthetically? Maybe not so much. I don't recall ever seeing one with the boards going vertically like that. I believe it is an Intermountain RTR car. Someday, when I'm all caught up with more pressing issues I may get around to correcting it Whistling

Very Interesting! Nice to learn a little bit more about those tracks! I’ll have to look to see if I can find some evidence of tracks in some other places, now I know where the tracks were!

I can understand why people might consider storing commuter service along that line, there is certainly demand, but the question is whether or not people in the area will ride the train or still opt for their cars! I do know I’d certainly make use of the line if the timings where convenient!

Anyway back to our regularly scheduled plain bearings please!
