Weekend Photo Fun, Jan. 25-27, 2019
Posted by mlehman on Friday, January 25, 2019 3:31 AM

I'll take a crack at this since pics seem to be posting for me now. First up, I rebuilt my hovercraft with an open cockpit and added a cargo platform. It's a work in progress, so I'll add some brabs, etc after it dries over night. Here it is now:

I have a few more pics to add in the Hovercraft thread.

Meanwhile, I got the bulk of the grabs installed on my group of 4 3000-series boxcars.

At the loco shop, I finished up #7. Here it's posed by a K-27 to show the dramatic difference in sizes in the same scale.

A back to back view:

A nice action view at Lime Creek Gulch.

For the whole enchilada, check out my thread on the loco remotor:

How's things look for the rest of you? The frozen wasteland outside tends to inspire more modeling here.

Wow Mike, you have a lot going on this week! Thank you for starting my favorite thread.

.

On Tuesday, instead of working on my layout segment I completed a boxcar for Weekend Photo Fun. This one is an older boxcar that was conveted into a meat reefer for the NEW RIVER AND SOUTHERN.

.

The kit is by Funaro and Camerlengo. I do not remember the prototype, but I thought the history of the freight car in the instructions was interesting.

.

I remember the instructions said the big brass hinges on the prototype were a distinctive feature, so I addded them to this model.

.

.

Keep the pictures (and fun) coming!

.

Good morning from cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio, temps in the teens and wind chill below "0".

Mike, since your almost done with those Rail Line boxcars, do you mind if I send you a couple of more!

Kevin, nice looking car!

Finally started work on some car kits, got a couple done and working on two other ones before firing up the air brush.

One Front Range and one Branchline kit complete, ready for painting.

An Intermountain kit and an Eastern Car Works kit in the process of assembling.

A pair of SD45's with some of my new Scale Trains PS4785 Covered Hoppers.

Thanks for looking!

great work everyone

Mike, that tiny loco is beautiful  makes me want to work on one of the brass RGS 20s my dad had. It's a brass model.

Kevin, the car looks good

rick, how does the scale trains car run for you? I've got a dozen of the tanks they did, and love them-minus the couplers ,

well, I joined the club of those who do multiple scales, I started N scale in T Trak. I am also the new co chair for the NMRA division 2 MCR T Trak group. Here's my efforts.

Yes, I managed to wire it up, and it runs well.  It was my first project to learn how to solder wire to rail.

ive also started an HO scale project...

Its an Ex-BLE, Ex ex Rock Island hopper car.  There are a dozen or so of these still in use by their new owner-The Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. I had to mix up the "Bankruptcy Blue" for the car.

hope to see even more good stuff come in

Mike L .... A hovercraft in HO? ... Creative idea. Thanks for sharing..... #7 looks like a very nice little engine.

Kevin ... I like your boxcar converted to reefer.

Rick .... You are doing more great work on freight cars. I like your SD45's.

Jimmy .... Nice phtos of the N scale club and HO hopper .

...

Below is an SD7 with a string of coal cars passing the scrap yard on the way to the power plant. ....... Currently, I am working on a coal mine for the other end of the layout, but I'm not ready to take pictures of it.

Mike- the hovercraft is looking good.

Kevin- another great car.

Rick- those cars will keep you busy.

Jimmy- nice looking T-trak, always wanted to try it.

Garry- nice scene.

I have been getting my car's couplers to the right height.

Plattsburgh yard was offically laid on roadbed this week.

The forest corner of my layout is almost done.

And I did some more ballasting in Plattburgh.

And a 1974 NY state police car sets the era.

The Rt. 9 crossing is almost done.

Keep the good stuff coming folks,

I have had no problem with the Scale Trains cars, have not changed out the couplers as they are running as a unit train with other PC/PRR/NYC covered hoppers at this time.

Our club has removed all the Kadee Magnetic Ramps and use pointed skewers for uncoupling now, so it won't be a problem if used in operations.

By the way nice work on your cars and joining the multi-scale club.

Gary, another great picture of your CB&Q layout, our club now now has a new member who is a CB&Q purist for the late 50's and early 60's era. We have had great discussions on car models and detailing.

This week I finished three G scale baggage carts which I had planned for the LL Bean Christmas layout that Boothbay Railway Village built. They finaly after 10 months wait, but too late for the Christmas display. They will be on the G scale loop at BRV this summer, and at LLB later

I too a break from BIG projects to work on 5 cars that had been sitting in my 'to do box' for a long time

A 1957 Chevy Nomad Station Wagon from Oxford Diecast. I added figures, a dog in the back seat, and peel and sitck tire whitewalls from Sylvan Scale

A 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Convertible from Best in Show, with figures added

A 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 from Oxford Diecast with added figures

A 1959 Buick Century Taxi from Oxford Diecast with added figures

The 1950 Caddy from Busch must have been very old production. The grill, bumpers and other chrome work were cast in grey plastic which I painted

Wow! From Jimmy's N scale to Mike's very small HO,to George's G projects - you guys are covering all bases this week. Nice to see Rick getting back into production, too.

I spoke too soon last week, when I said the K-28 was running great - a few trips around the layout revealed an intermittent short, and the power/motor leads between the engine/tender were binding - causing derailments. A little work with the Dremel solved everything.

Here (I hope) is a link to a video of the 478:

WPF is off to a good start - keep 'em coming!

Haven't seen anything from C&O Fan(Terry in Texas) in months - hope he's just taking a break...

Have a good weekend!

Thanks for starting off WPF Mike. The Hovercraft is an interesting project. I love the #7 steamer. A real little jewel.

Kevin - The converted box car is an interesting car. Unusual.

rick - Nice looking PC SD-45s w/two different worms, no less!

Jimmy - A good start on the N-Trak module. Wish I could see the N-Scale trains. They're just too small for these eyes.

Garry - A good looking scene as always.

Harrison - Things are coming along.

George - Some cool looking old vehicles.

The new Black River Station/Depot is nearly done. Here are a couple of views of it on the layout: The south/east side/Mainline track side.

More work to do fitting it in place. And lighting it. Some of the details are hand made and others pirated from the old station. The south/west side:

Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.

Mike, Thanks for the WPF start.  Though not the same type of craft your boat reminded me of the old TV series "The Everglades".

George,  Liking your cart and motor vehicles.

Thanks to all the contributors.  Regards,  Peter

Excellent everyone!

I FINALLY finished my pellet hopper cars.  Too cheap to buy the 65'ers, so I repurposed some 55' cars I had.

Now on to a sting of spine cars I started early last year!

Kevin, Interesting reefer. Those brass hinges really stand out.

Rick, Sorry, these are the last 4 3000-series cars I ever plan to assemble. I'm having to use my magnifier eye loupe to do these - and I suspect it's not going to get any better. Looks like you're having some fun with those SG kits.

Jimmy, I wonder if your dad's #20 is the same as Ulrich's? He posted a pic and video of his in my remotor thread. T-track has me intrigued, also, as we're going to have a display T-track set-up at our Lincoln Square Train Show here on March 30-31.

GARRY, Thanks, I just couldn't resist when I saw it was less than $2! I'm already looking forward to your coal mine.

Harrison, You're making some impressive progress with your modeling!

George, Are those baggage cars kits or scratch? Either way, excellent modeling! Do you have a 1:1 cart arround the museum? NICE WORK on those cars!

Mike, Awesome work on that loco! Great job on the videography, too! And I'm certain you know it's really a K-28, which is my favorite class on the Rio Grande.

Allan, Thanks for you kind comments. I like the station because it's out of the ordinary.

Peter, I couldn't remember what I was thinking of as background when I did the hovercraft, but thanks for reminding me of that memory. That's where the idea came from! And that's an outstanding pic of some fine modeling!

Mike, Good job on the cars. Losing a few feet is something I could live with.

RDG Casey, That is going to be one heavy hauler.

I added some grabs and other useful features to the hovercraft.

Here's a link to the thread, which I will add some other pics to.

Lots of really nice pics! Thanks to all for posting and providing some inspiration.

It's funny what shows up in a yard these days. None of the crews admit to knowing where the pallet came from.

OK, decided to try and build some HO scale wood pallets for some detail parts in various areas. Used some scrap wood to build some 48"x40" pallets and yes, this one has a broken slat. Perfection is not the objective, but a little more R & D in progress.
