N&W M class for light branchwork, please. The Sunset version is almost unobtainable and I just want something less large. Big is not always better.

Well, I'd like the GP15D and GP20D, or one of MK or MPI variants. I'm not that picky.

Also nice would be SD70ACe and/or SD70M-2, and some of the white BNSF icicle reefers.

While we're on the "Wish-List" thread, I'd like to see BLI or Heritage come out with a Baldwin 'Centipede.' I know that the prototypes were about as useful as a third nostril, but they sure LOOKED impressive! And while we're at it, how about BLI coming out with a 2-8-0 Consolidation, say something like a chunky little Rio Grande P-41? Dang, those fellas were cute!

Bachmann or another manufacturer should produce HO Auxiliary Water Tenders for use behind HO models of current or now retired steam excursion locomotives, such as SOUTHERN 2-8-2 4501. David Briel

You have raised a good question about the two engines sounding different. If the 2-8-8-2 Y class is running in the compound mode, which was normal on the road, they make a very quiet puffing sound because the high presure steam is used directly into the low presure cylinders and the exhaust was fairly quiet compared to the A class engine. The N&W used them in compound much of the time as this was more efficient once the train was moving.

I got to watch these engines at Roanoke in 1956 for a week of railfanning and they were great to see in action. The whistles on the Y's were different also from the A class. When the Y class was run in simple mode, they were very loud because the large front cylinders got high presure steam in simple mode.
I would guess not even soundtraxx will offer the compound steam sound, but ehn who knows.
You can purchase recordings of both engines and check the difference.

Penn Central / Conrail "Bicentennial" (well, how about a series of everybody's) locomotive paint schemes.

PRR type GG hopper. Circa 1900, composite (wood and steel) construction, about 100 tons capacity. Almost the last and largest composite hopper, since after 1900 all-steel was the new and better way to do it. (Besides, it was designed here in my home town!)

Locomotives that do NOT cost $100+ each?

Is a 1900-era 4-4-0 with good-quality detailing and second-tier roadnames (that is, subsidiaries and soon-to-be-merged lines) asking too much? I can wait with sound.

If anyone makes it, it will be Bachmann, they own the right to making train sets based on that movie. Lionel owns the rights to the Polar Express Movie, but Bachmann made a polar express set back when the movie concept wasn't around

No Traction Fans? How about a 6000 series CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Set.? New Yorkers have models from Lifelike! (Redbirds, i believe). What i wouldn't do for a nice Red line/Green line setup!! If you are old enough and from Chicago, you know what i mean!!!

I would like to see {call me crazy} one of the big boys produce a GM AEROTRAIN.Even after it's disapointing short lived life.I looked at one in brass 1500.00.To me it is a thing of beauty and would love one with dcc and qsi sound.Even the old varney plastic models with no detail and no motor still goes for 100.00 or more on e-bay I know most manf.could not afford such an exotic engine with a limited customer base But that doesn't stop me from wanting one.
