Good Morning Folks!

What a night! I hardly caught any sleep - there are just too many thoughts on my mind. Yes, I have read Steven´s post on the job opening, but I am not sure, whether I´d come anywhere near the top 10 applicants for that job. Let me explain why.

I am not sure whether you could describe my model railroading skills as "strong".

English is not my native language - without a spelling checker I´d be lost.

I don´t have a background in journalism or teaching. My journalistic skills are at best "underdeveloped". I took a basic journalism class back in high school. A few comments of mine were recently published in various newspapers - in my native German. The only "publication" you´ll find in English is my little report on the homepage of the Japan Rail Modelers of Washington, DC.

I am not a US citizen. Why would the folks at Kalmbach want to go through all the red tape and hassle necessary to get permission to employ an "alien", when there are lots of "natives" around, better qualified for the job?

I don´t have the funds to pay for the airfare to go to the interview, let alone the cost of relocation.

Just picture me explaining some weathering techniques with my German accent - like Herr Otto Flick in the British comedy series ´Allo, ´Allo. "Ve have different vays of making that loco look as old as a German Panzer in the Battle of the Bulge" That video would certainly make it into the comedy charts...

Don´t get me wrong - I´d love to team up with Neil, David, Dana, Cody and the rest of the Kalmbach staff, contributing to my favorite mag, but my chances on that are close to nil.

A big [sigh]
