Now we wait for the glue to dry
Posted by FThunder11 on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 3:29 PM
I've decided to do a weekly update of my layout. And from now on ill do it on Sundays or Mondays, but the first one is today because i just though of it. I would also like to hear updatse on other peoples layouts!
This week, I got a little flex track som woodland senics roadbed and WS 2% risers. My layout is so far only plywood. But today in 2 sections of the layout(LO) Ive put down some blue foam. I used wood glue (thnks for the tips) to attach it to the plywood and now i have to wait for it to dry. THats about all that going on on my layout. How about yours???

I haven't worked on my layout in so long that I'm sure all of the glue is dry! [:(]

Currently rounding up balsa wood to make some old retaining walls, cutting black board for city streets and wiring lights....

I got a HUGE list that would be really long if you want to read it.

Over the past two weeks I've managed to lay most of the track on my 3 x 6'- 8" layout. The mainline is complete. Ran the first engine around the layout last night. Starting my block wiring now.

I used foam on a hollow core wood door. Grades were made by 'cookie cutting' the foam and raising up sections on risers made of the same foam.

He're's a shot taken a couple of days ago before completing all the mainline track. Tan areas are just where I've painted the foam to make the layout look less like a 'Smurf'.

Regards

Ok, Darn it, now you are going to make me get back into n scale again. LOL I really like the work you did with the blue foam, very impressive. Tongiht for me is plaster soaked papertowels over a foam/newspaper base. I'm haveing a big X-mas party so that lit afire under my behind to get some work done. In the last few days ive installed the facia front, and have roughed out he river area. During that time i have used gorilla glue to build up the foam mountain. That stuff is plain fantastic.

Now don't be to hard on me, i'm still new at this. I am doing hi-rail but the scale work is coming a bit at a time. But that is the fun of this hobby isn't it? I'll post some more for you in a couple of days. Bill

I finished assembling my Walthers double truss bridge the day before yesterday. I just air brushed it with Floquil rail brown, rust, and engine black. Looks pretty good. Its sitting in my garage drying and fuming out. Now we play the waiting game.

Currently re-wiring my track switch control panels - I was using the Peco slide switches, now I'm changing over to their lever switches mounted in their control panels. My plan is to have a seperate control panel for each board as this will reduce inter-board wiring to 4 wires - 2 track, 2 16V AC for switch machines. I also plan to buy a walk-around throttle unit to control the layout, so I can stand where I'm switching, rather than at one end of the layout and trying to gauge where the uncoupling magnets are in relation to trackside objects!

I also plan to change to DCC in the medium to long term - probably with a Lenz Compact unit as these seem to be the best value over here and can run one analogue loco alongside the DCC ones - handy as it means I don't have to change all my locos "overnight".

Ed well done Dude! Cross racer looks like he's also well on his way. Now it's my turn!

Teffy's Texas Whirl Wind tour is heading up my way this month so it's time to put on the after burners and move it!

It's nice to see others doing what counts!

Working on my 2'x4' module here in my apartment (can't do a full layout, so why not build up the sections :) hehehhehe)

Anywho, just finished putting down my static grass (about 5 layers, different colors) for the field grass. Also working on making a few trees (about 5) to finish out the trees on this module. Also working on getting the river ready to 'lay water". Still have some weathering to do, but getting close in this department.
