i have this problem that i cannot fix. My loco"s keep derailing as it comes out of a turn all ways at the same spot .AS it comes out of a turn and before it starts going streight it de rails I have changed the track a few times have checked for binding or out of gage but still have the same problem eaven at a slow speed cannot figure it out [xx(] can any one help me i feel like ripping the whole thing down . i have now layed flexable again also have tried sectioned pieces nothing seems ti work.. i am getting ready to chuck the whole thing out [8][xx(]please someone help thanks ROY

You Could Try Putting A Continous Check Rail On The Outside Of The Curve.

Can be frustrating.

[1] Have you checked the locomotive's wheels/axles and made sure that they're in gauge? Even "1/16 can make a big difference.

[2] If it's a diesel, remove the shell off of the chassis and run it around the curve. Watch the actions of the trucks and look for binding or "lifting up".

To help you, we need to know what locomotive, who is the manufacturer and what the radius of the curve is.

Insuffirciant Information:

If all your locos derail, it's obviously the TRACK.
If it's only ONE loco, I'd start with it.

Your radius may be too tight
If your wheels are in gauge, it could be a 'Transition' problem.
Sometimers the derailment can occur upstream, but it comes off the track further down.
It could be speed related..

YOU need to EYEBALL it closely (and run it slowly)

Your problem is indicative of trucks not allowed to swivel freely, and perhaps also not enough lateral movement. Check the locomotive carefully, looking (and feeling) for places where the truck sideframes rub or catch on the locomotive body or otherwise bind. I had this problem with some new Athearn Genesis SD-70 models. If the locomotive(s) used the standard Athearn drive, you need to also check the universal joints and splines to insure that they are not binding as the trucks swivel to enter a curve or transition out of a curve.

Here's a no bull reply. Several years ago I bought a loco from a LHS. I laid my track on cork, did the whole layout thing. I had one locomotive. Out of money at the time. Everytime the ATHEARN went around the curve it would derail. I got so frustrated, I ripped the track up and threw it out. When I got some more money I went to the store and bought some bachmann easy track thinking I was so stupid and incompetent that laying track just was not my expertise! Then I set up the bachmann ez track and guess what, that stupid locomotice derailed again and again! After my tantrum was finished I took the shell off and watched the locomotive run around the curves. That dam loco had a bent frame! I had purchased it brand new. I bent the frame in the back into place. It never derailed again. I never got to find out if I could hand lay track correctly or not. I have had the ez track ever since! NO bull! What an idiot!

I am laying flex track for the first time will offer a finding that most of you are probably aware of. My diesels run fine , but my 4-8-2 Spectrum Heavy Mountain is impossible. It derails with the slightest glitch. What I found by closely watching the lead driver is that any change in downhill elevation within the length of the engine will cause the lead driver to lift up and come down off the track. This is especially true on curves. I had thought kinky track would be a problem, but I have found that elevation gradients are even more of a problem. Since it took me a while to discover this, I thought it may be helpful to others.
