I'm going to continue building benchwork and laying track over the summer. Possibly start building some structures for the new layout and continue the design of the next addition. But before I do any of this I'm going to Florida for 10 Days!! Leaving Saturday and hope to be there on Sunday, if not then Monday. So before we leave I'll be looking for train oriented sites to visit in Central Florida. But I'll be taking a couple of months worth of train mag's to read when I get the chance.

I am going to start a small "ingelnook" layout some time this weekend. to keep me stimulated until I can start my larger shelf layout, and more complex micros this summer. I will try to repair some structures from an old ( very old ) HO scale layout that was given to me a couple years ago, but is now dismantled. the layout will consist of 2 turnout the industries will be a grain elevator and a team track, plus a depot to keep my doodle bug busy. I will post some pics when I get it started. the layout will be a liitle larger than a micro, plus a small fiddle yard.

Very nice work Ray! Very nice. Looks like you and I share the love of salvaging the older stuff and rebuilding it.

I put on a 10'X20' addition on garage this spring, have all benchwork done, all track laid 60% DCC wiring complete, most buildings complete and wanting to install backdrops so I cant see other side of layout. Also, I just attended an op session with 1 of Bruce Carpenters associates( thanks again Chip, Bruce and friends. Gonna take it easy the rest of summer(sure I am). Also should spend some vacation time with wife and kids. Maybe drop a couple constuction photos on line, If I can figure that out. Keep RXRing. Randy

The old layout is totally gone. I'm now painting the room white to get better light reflection on the upcoming one.

I've finished the walls for the roundhouse--now I'm working on the scenery for my diorama. Due to the apparent banning of blue or pink extruded foam in California, I used Styrofoam-style 2" insulation for bulk scenery and 1" Woodland Scenics styrofoam for subroadbed. The mountain profiles I came up with weren't quite bulky enough so I shot it with GREAT STUFF insulating foam, which swelled things up nicely. After it dried I started cutting out the bits that didn't look like a mountain.

Wow, a lot of work is being done around here. It’s great to hear about so many interesting projects. This is when this forum really shines! [^]

I've started weathering my hoppers…without the benefit of an airbrush. [:0] Here is a picture I took of my first try, using an older (N-scale) hopper with a “foreign” road name to experiment on:

Here it is in action with the second weathered hopper just behind it. The locomotives will eventually get weathered… when I work up the nerve to do it. [:-^]

I'm trying to help the Burlington Route Historical Society (or vise versa, I'm not a member and am pretty much asking them all of the questions!) find the dimensions to the coaling dock at Burlington, IA. Once they get thru with that, I'll start building an HO model of the coaling dock. Pretty soon I'll be getting an airbrush (although MAbruce doesn't need one if he can weather like that with all of his models!), but first I need to recover from paying off my BLI Heavy 2-8-2 (still waiting for BLI to ship it, then I'll wait for First Hobby to get it to me), plus whatever I'll spend at Galesburg Railroad Days.

Right now, I don't know what room my layout is going to be in, but either way, I have plans for one. Should be at least planning benchwork in another month.

I'm disassembling my old structures so I can strip the paint off of them and reassemble them better than I had before. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to replace the missing and painted over window glazing in them.
